Sunderland might have been his first choice over that period, but the minute Cardiff showed interest we were likely to lose. It’s just where we both are as clubs at the moment.

Shame, but hopefully we’ve other targets lined up and hadn’t “banked” on him signing

He’d have been aware of Cardiff’s possible interest imo and would have been waiting to see if that materialised.

Think the only way we’d have got him is if we offered more than what Cardiff did, so we’d have had to offer in the region of £20k a week (possibly more) which would be f***ing daft as a league 1 team in the last year of parachute payments.

cardiff qwill only havde wanted him if they went down and if warnock stayed-but could have been talking to the player months ago..
