Best city , Leeds or Newcastle

I’ve visited Leeds a lot over the past thirty years through clubbing, football and family. I also worked in Newcastle for over ten. Leeds has changed massively in that time and in my opinion there’s no comparison between the two. Just found out recently that the new Channel 4 HQ has upped sticks from London and moved to the old Majestics nightclub.

I’ve lived in Newcastle for 2 years now and don’t have the same soft spot. But that may be because working just isn’t as fun as University :lol:

Out of UK cities that aren’t London I like Manchester the best, got to say.

I went to Leeds for uni and now live next to Newcastle too. I don't think there's that much between them as cities to be honest, but I can't tolerate the Leeds accent, and a lot of people I've met from there are miserable bastards.

Is that the nightclub over from the train station that burnt down? The investment in the City has given it new life, for me it's got the perfect blend of old and modern. Also love the little hubs north of the centre like Chapel Alperton, Meanwood and Horsforth.
 
Haven’t been to Leeds for years, need to get up to go to North and Northern Monk. Might try and get to Dark City at the end of the year.

Prefer Liverpool personally, even though I do still like Manchester and see it as England’s second best city. I’ve thought on me last few visits to Manchester that it’s been canny scruffy in prime city centre areas, especially the Piccadilly area. It’s a much bigger pain in the arse getting in bars on a night with a group of lads than it is in Liverpool as well.

Yes it is mate. Yeah Horsforth is a nice little place. Headingley used to be a good day out on the drink anarl.

Newcastle for me. But Bristol is better than both of them.
 
Leeds easily.
Music scene is far superior - bands actually want to play here. Clubbing - when I used to go out regularly was unbelievable - weekly the dj’s I listened too were a big deal internationally - Newcastle’s promoters do well, but not on the same scale. Craft ale scene is the best in the country and locally the home of Northern Monk, Magic Rock etc just up the road. Independent coffee outlets and roasters are some of the best in the country. Food scene, from Michelin to street food isn’t a patch on Newcastle. Independent clothes shops along with Harvey Nicks etc. wins hands down. Leeds doesn’t have multiple bridges like Newcastle granted, but the canal walks and countryside options don’t come close. Cultural diversity runs through the city which is incomparable to Newcastle.
It’s the capital of the north for me and far greater than Manchester let alone Newcastle.
Don’t get me wrong, Newcastle is a cool city, loads going on but comparing the two isn’t exact. Both unique, but I’d get wider experiences in Leeds.

Agree ! And that was reason for starting thread, nowt between the two, but Leeds has upped its game, and as you say, nail on head, a wider experience. I don't get any satisfaction from saying this , as I want the NE to come out on top always, regardless of football allegiances.
