RR News: Sunderland owners targetting a 100 point season in League One next year

You think they won't know the kind of points tally needed to get promotion? They'll see us as a team to beat anyway. Let's face it, we got to 85 this year without being consistently good.
What you say may well be right, to come out and say what he has is plain silly.

League 1 champions trophy tin pot trophy make us a force to be reckoned with I remember a time when the opposition was shit scared to play us we need to make the stadium a fortress again the opposition get in but they get no goals we can do this cos we're sunlun till we die

Well said marra.

Did playing the most games in the football league have an impact on how our season ended? Probably, you could seethe lads were knackered at the end of the game.

We've had our Wembley day out for it, let someone else have a go next season. Aim for promotion only.
For most of the tournament we used young players, fringe players and players coming back from injury in the checkatrade and I personally enjoyed the performances. It was only for the later stages we played a first choice team. I said at the time we should have stuck with the checkatrade side throughout the tournament as we were the only team that had a big enough squad to do this and still get to the final.

What's arrogant about setting a target that we would have overachieved on if we'd won half the games we drew? If we're serious about getting out of this division, it's an eminently sensible target.
But those of us who expected to go up automatically this season we had "unrealistic expectations" according to Methven. What's the difference?

If they want to reach 100 points or as close to it as possible, then Ross needs to be removed from his position ASAP.

Why not. It's realistically the only trophy we can possibly win and will be for a while. It should be a minimum that it's one of the targets for next season.

At the moment I feel like I never want us to go to Wembley again! Sick of the inevitable disappointment. Let’s just go up top 2 and be happy with that.

Pathetic how quickly people have turned against the owners. Yes, it’s disappointing we didn’t go up but f***ing hell man. Embarrassing crack.

Fine margins, mate. Ross, and therefore the owners, got it right in most parts of the pitch, but in one crucial area, up front, they got it wrong. It killed us.

They have the chance to put it right next season. This season in my opinion hasn't been a failure. The ship has been steadied, we've got the nucleus of a team who with one or two additions in the right places should get out of that league next season. But, if they don't address the glaring inability to keep hold of a football up front and be a threat then I'll join those who don't rate the manager.

I think he knows what he's doing, but a couple of signings in Wyke and Grigg didn't work for him, while most of the others did. That can happen. Grigg was proven at this level and that's why he went for him. Grigg turning up and reproducing his previous form in League One would have seen us promoted by a distance. It's testament to the rest of the team that they kept in touch without offering much upfront.

And, yes, turning on the owners is poor.

Freudian typo there - I am still seething

All this 'turning on owners'...I don't see it?

We had a couple of seasons under Reid when we were a handful, but apart from that in my lifetime the opposition couldn't wait to get up here for easy pickings.

They’ve been here a year. They’ve made mistakes, they’ll make more. They are going to need time to turn things round but I’m confident they will.

This time last year we weren't even sure we had a squad. We all know, and the owners will too, that there are things with the squad that have to be fixed, but the baseline is now a season where the initial rebuilding has been done, and we've finished fifth on 85 points. I see no problem in expecting an improvement on that, not on expectations changing over time.

Del Boy and Rodney. Really?

But why were we unrealistic to expect to get promotion? It sounds like double standards. Funnily enough Charlton were in a similar situation to us at the start of the season.

The owners talk the talk. Now they need to back it up.
