Charlton having more fans than us

:lol: Same, I’m driving down in the morning

I did put this to the missus (there and back in one day) but we have long standing family arrangement for tomorrow so she was having none of it. We're watching it on the tele as part of our family get together.

38plus compared to our 35k plus

Think it’s first time in my 6 visits to Wembley we have taken less than the opposition

Understand the reason, watering the garden, shopping, x 2 trips to Wembley in the space of 3 months.....

But we can still do this
They do live down the road mind.

I can't go tomorrow, not because I spent too much going last time but because I simply have no f***ing money. Car insurance, season ticket payment, parents golden wedding anniversary, mountain bike trip at the start of next month and a few other things this month have left me skint. If it was next weekend after I get paid it might've been a different story. I've rarely missed a home game in around 34/35 years so have probably seen more Sunderland games in my lifetime than fuckers like you moaning about me not going to this one game

Right. Well if you read my post I said people who reckon they spent too much money on the game the last time giving it the big one even though they didn't go to any of the other check a trade games. More bothered about about saying they were at TF on social media. So pointless having a defence complex, obviously wasn't on about you

national stadium on their door step and people are wondering why they sold more tickets than us

I think people are paranoid after years of the press reporting on ‘Sunderland have 8000 empty seats every game, more than any other Premier Leage club’ as opposed to having 40k, and now that any sign of failing to sell Wembley will end up big news and the fan base will be made to look shite again.

For the majority of the Charlton fans at the match, it’ll be their first game this season. Not so for us. We will be drunker and louder than them, so I’m not worried about this at all.

Our lowest attendance is higher than all but one club's maximum capacity.
Our lowest attendance is higher than Charlton's maximum capacity by a few hundred. Their highest attendance is 10k off that.

Attendance figures is the last thing we should feel bad about.

Did you not go to the Checkatrade like ?

Shout out to SAFC and Bradford’s average attendances there.

Oh and why the hell Coventry ever thought they’d need a 32k capacity stadium

The home attendance against Pompey makes me question your assertion

I think you will find a lot of exiles propping g up our support this weekend

The sea refuses no river marra.

I know some who’ve not been to a home game since Reidy was being urged to cheer up that’ll be there. This is an unexpected golden opportunity for safc to reach out to them and people like them and bring em back into the fold.

I’ve heard there’s gonna be hundreds of spares knocking about on the day and it’s gonna be another glorious day according to the forecasts. Anyone down here who’d otherwise just be watching it on the telly or going to the pub or garden centre or diy store.......go on, take a chance. Live a little. Bring a friend.....what’s the worst that can happen? You spend a few hours in a strange pub watching it on the telly........what’s the best? You can say IVE SEEN SUNDERLAND WIN AT WEMBLEY!

That ok Charlie?

Simple question - would Charlton be bringing anywhere near 35,000 to Wembley stadium if it was in say, Stockton on Tees?

More like 10,000 max.

I wouldn't worry about it, focus on something positive like Portsmouth fans seething about it. I wouldn't go to Appleby Horse Fair this year, that's for sure

As said in another thread, some of you lot need to stop beating yourselves up about this.

Sunderland taking over 40,000 to the poxy checkatrade final is one of, if not the most impressive turn outs ever at Wembley. That is amazing support.

The fact many cannot afford to go again so soon is not 'embarrassing' at all. I remember going to Old Trafford to watch that Semi-Final was a pain logistically and expensive.

I cant think of any southern club that would take a combined 75,000 fans to two, let's be honest, pretty unfashionable games, in the space of a few months 300 plus miles away bar Arsenal, Spurs and maybe west ham (spit).

Certainly not Charlton, who are wetting themselves that they have managed to finally sell 38,000 tickets for their first Wembley visit in 21 years against big opposition in a promotion deciding match!

In fact they crack me up. Would they have sold 49,500 for the Auto-windscreens Trophy v a pre PL Wigan Athletic or for Scunthorpe United in the L1 playoff final? Fuck no. If they lose and end up in the Checkatrade final next season v Rochdale they'd struggle to shift 20,000!

Charlton have always benefitted from location and reputation as a nice club. On the borders of greater London and Northwest Kent, where there's a lot of floating football fans with spare cash. Hence, if Charlton do well they can sell lots of tickets to armchair Spurs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United fans from Sidcup and Dartford, but when doing badly they have to rely on a rather smaller local hard core. Some of their actual crowds were down to 6,000 this and last season - only inflated by including all the comps they give away. I remember the ad they put up all over greater London and Kent when in that PL - 'come watch Henry, Gerrard etc at The Valley for just £200' etc. West Ham have now adopted this attract football tourist approach at the taxpayer stadium.

On that, you should have no problem out singing them at Wembley. 35,000 proper Sunderland fans v mish mash of hardcore Charlton fans, floating Charlton fans, friends and relatives and armchair PL fans from greater London and Kent on a cheap big day out... Plus their drum and one foreign, generic chant!

The fascination with attendances these days is bordering insanity. It was never like this when I was a kid, no one gave a toss.

It all stems from having a stadium too big for us and empty seats on show. The fact that the media and other clubs like to point it out has given our fans a complex about it.

It's other clubs tho. People mock man city, arsenal, villa, anyone with a few seats on show. It's like it's totally unacceptable to not sell out every single game you play and the attendance at a game these days is as talked about as a red card or a last minute winner. It's odd as fuck.

At the last Play off final against Charlton, nearly every Charlton supporter that I spoke to actually supported a different club, they were just there having a day out and offering another smaller London club support.
Which seems the case again, all the lads I know down here are going, they are Chelsea, Millwall, arsenal and spurs.

Even if they do we have to and will be louder than them. We have to make Wembley or own and get behind the lads for the whole game.

Most people who care about attendence figures are absolut scratholes who desperately clutch for something to brag about in front of their mag colleagues. Sad cases with an inferiority complex.

A lot of people went for the checkatrade and probably can't afford to go again ! Me included.

Most have paid £100+ for travel
Average ticket is around £50
Spends for a long day weekend £100+ easy
Hotels probably around minimum £100 too

Charlton coat average ticket £50 maximum £12 on tube leave house at 1pm be back by 6 at a push.

So 35,000 is amazing ! More than our average crowd similar to our fan base so it’s great.
Any Charlton fan of school age or under or over 60 will travel free, plus all those who use an Oyster fir work covering zone 4, which will be a lot.
