Charlton:
Average attendance - 11k, Playoff attendance already over 20k

Portsmouth:
Average attendance - 18k, Playoff game already sold out at 19k+

Us:
Average attendance - 32k, Boxing day gate of 46k, League game against Portsmouth - 40k, Playoff game - under 25k

I'm gutted to be saying this but our stay away support is letting the club down here.

I am the first one to praise our support, and there have been so many occasions when we have been unbelievable, but this is just shattering the good image we have.

Are you trying to say that we are the only set of fans who make plans, have work, have kids, are gannin to our second cousin's, dog's, budgie's wedding? Fuck off man.

We have a hardcore of support who are there through thick and thin, which is why our away attendances are consistently excellent, but we have a huge element of fair weather twats who claim to be 'Sunlun til I die' while they watch it in the pub.

Where are all those who ran to the ticket office to get a Walsall ticket for a purchase history for Wembley? I hope their next shits a cactus.
Fuming ^

We'll be rife for piss taking/criticism off anyone who doesn't follow us. A crowd of 25k this Saturday is not good whatever way you look at it.

Like I say - supporters of a) premier league teams, b) teams that get less than 25k regularly and especially c) both of those put together can hardly take the piss. That leaves a very limited list of clubs like

And a crowd of 25k in third tier football is immense. Just look at the history books....

Ill be there but given Ross's negative football and the way he has killed all momentum around the club (I still havent got over spending hundreds of pounds to follow my club to Wembley, play 1 striker and hoist a white flag up) I can fully understand why some fans are giving this a wide berth.

I really really hope Im wrong and we scrape up but at the present time the omens are not good.

You're a shit fan in my opinion.

I understand that some people can't make it or can't afford it but if you're able to go and choosing not to cause you're annoyed at the ticket price or annoyed we didn't finish top two or whatever then you're a shit fan who isn't really supporting the team.
Ill be there but sorry I disagree.

Given the negative way we have played since November I can fully understand why some fans are giving it a wide berth.

Going to Wembley and playing no strikers has left a lot of supporters very disillusioned Im afraid.

The managers negative tactics have been awful to watch for most of the season but a lot would have cut him some slack if it was successful but it hasnt been.

Sunderland finishing 5th in Div 3 has done a lot of supporters in. Its going to take a lot to get them back on side.

Aye but get beat Saturday 5-0 and Thursday is pretty much irrelevant. Same goes for if we win 5-0. I see what you're saying mate, but don't agree. For me, both games are of equal importance.

Exactly, goals don’t count for more in one or the other. Both are huge, but for each team you’d probably say the home game is the one you place more significance on winning especially when it’s played first so you can give yourself the best chance possible of going into the second leg with a cushion.

What if you can't go because you made other plans, thinking that they couldn't be so f***ing inept as to need to go through the play-offs ?

In fairness it’s not as if we’ve been in the top 2 all season and then fallen out at the last minute. It’s been looking like we’d have to settle for the play offs for a while, or going to the wire at best which it just about did. However I wouldn’t criticise anyone who can’t make it because they have other commitments. I just don’t understand why someone wouldn’t want to go if you don’t have other commitments, could make it and could afford to go and class themselves as a Sunderland supporter when it’s a crucial game and last chance saloon for promotion.

Alright Jack? Yes because it is.

Its not the owners they have backed him to the hilt.

Its not the players as they are way good enough to get out of this league

Its not the supporters as we have smashed all the attendance records.

Its the negative tactic and turgid football and been frightened to attack Accrinton Stanley, Afc Wimbledon etc etc etc at home. Way way not good enough.

Sorry Jack but that is the truth. It may hurt.

It's not the owners - we have a net spend of what? £140k or something?? I personally wouldn't call that backing him to the hilt. They've supported him yes....

It's not the players - We struggled to replace certain players, and the upheaval the squad had in the summer. Give him time.

It's not the supporters - The negativity of the support at times has been laughable. I thought we'd turned the corner when we went 1-0 down against Charlton at home, the positivity then was great to see. I don't get that feeling anymore.

It's a number of reasons, we are where we are. Jack Ross hasn't been perfect, but you can't blame him for everything.

THis is a good read:

It’s a bit of a shock in one hand but in the other I think jack has taken the air out of the sails around the club since the second half of the final. I’ve been and still am a Ross supporter but I have to admit he’s played a big role in our bang average end to the season, some of his team selections, formations and subs have been head scratching at times.

This is the bit I just don’t get. Only one player has looked a cut above this league, absolutely no one else. Criticise Ross for other things, but not this. I heard all this guff last year when our players were too good to go down seemingly.

The owners have been excellent given where we were.

So basically you are saying its the fans fault? You need to get real as the support has been phenomenal given that we are in Div 3.

The negative football and tactics have been horrible to watch this season given that we are in Div 3. That IS the managers fault.

I dont need to read anything I can see it with my own eyes on the pitch. Way way way not good enough. Sorry Jack.

So, if things arnt all rosey on the pitch no one wants to know?

What about supporting your club no matter what? Sunderland Til I Die my arse for thousands of 'supporters'.

Edit - 09/10 under Bruce when we had Bent, Jones, Cana, Mensah, and everything was all rosy then, we were still were getting under 40k's for some games.
