New Music Releases Thread

Pretty much. I can empathise to an extent in that it must be annoying that whatever new stuff you bring out people just want to hear what you did 25 years ago but there’s the option there to just not do it.
I think that would be a fair argument for Pixies to have - they’re a working band and they do play new stuff.

But I don’t think Dando can hide behind that, especially if he’s going to tour the Lemonheads name - if you don’t want to play the old stuff, record some new material. They’ve had one original album since their heyday and that was what, 15 years ago? His choice is pretty much play the old stuff or be the wedding band no one wants to hear - covers, but covers no one knows.

I like the latest covers album but, mostly, point taken.

Right, new albums I've listened to over the weekend that weren't made by posters on here:

Drahla - pretty good, got a Kim Gordon fronting Sonic Youth vibe to some of the songs.
Big Thief - I like this a lot. A very coherent album! Has a very intimate, folky vibe.
The Dream Syndicate - second album since reforming. It's indie rock. It's pretty good but not wonderful.
The Felice Brothers - probably their best album in a decade! Just about my favourite of the week.
Filthy Friends - similar to The Dream Syndicate. It's well crafted indie rock from veterans.
Rhiannon Giddens - really very good! Fresh from the Our Native Daughters album, she's collaborated with Francesco Turrisi, an Italian multi-instrumentalist. This means that they add African and Arabic sounds to her folky stuff.
Vampire Weekend - overly long! Lacks a bit in energy. The three duets with Danielle Haim are the best things on it.

Me and the family listened to Big Thief whilst on a road trip this weekend. I think it’s excellent. Love how folky and meek it can be before the overdriven and distorted elements come in to play.

Also listened to Vampire Weekend. As previously mentioned, overlong and lacks a bit of coherence in respect of sound - obviously the main thread throughout is the fact that it appears to be a ‘breakup’ record, but it feels like the point is laboured a touch.

Could have been a better album if a few tracks were kept back... enough to make two albums really, but I suppose you can’t release another breakup album straight after a breakup album.

I must be the only person on here who actually likes the VW album, all 18 tracks of it
