"BENITEZ IN DESPERATE 'COME AND GET ME' PLEA"
Rafa Benitez has made a shock call for a big club to rescue him from his Newcastle nightmare, the outsize Spaniard who won the Champions League at Liverpool nearly 15 years ago has struggled at the Toon, having suffered both relegation and repeated relegation battles despite considerable budgets made available from benevolent owner Sports Direct tycoon Mike Ashley who has had the club for sale longer than off the market. "Rafa the Gaffa" remains surprisingly popular with Newcastle fans, but recently stated that he wanted to manage a big club and compete in the Champions League again, spelling an exit from the Sports Direct Arena if he can somehow attract a suitable club, Rafa signalled the urgency of his situation by revealing he was close to signing a new contract with the Tyneside club, which would at least give him financial security but at the expense of his ambitions of a return to glory in the future.
I assume the Chronicle will have run a similar story...
