Clearly you are the oracle of the SMB. Congratulations. Clearly know more than first hand information received from Steve Neill, perhaps you would like his job. The police cells are not a permanent detention so it has its own unique protocol.

The very same failings did occur. A smoke bomb made it into the stadium despite searches. It was then thrown. Same thing as last game. The club procedure is disgraceful and needs reviewing. The club admit this, yet you can’t accept it
I’m going to repeat my self here but there is a serious loophole withsecurity procedures at all grounds not just the SOL, basically stewards are not by law able to search a minor ie under 18 without the permission of a responsible guardian or parent, I’ve been asked many times at away games for permission to search my grandson, in fact it’s the norm. If there is not a responsible adult present, which is more than possible with 16/17 year olds it’s not at all difficult to take banned items into a football ground. As I say a major loophole which the club can’t be held responsible for

What on earth were Coventry thinking of selling a ticket for what was predicted to be a volatile game to an individual with a record of hooliganism?

Some serious questions need asking surely

If they have anything about them as a club (which currently, especially after seeing their previous statement about the trouble, I doubt) they should be banning him for life. Gets an 8 year ban, comes back and causes trouble again, what's the point, he's obviously a complete knacker and more trouble than he's worth, amazed they haven't given a life ban thus far

Agree, very noticeable how Pompey immediately accepted responsibility for last Saturday’s incident where as Coventry never have

How effective are these bans like ? Not that I'd ever get banned but I'm sure if I was I'd be able to slip into a crowd of thousands and watch a match . Just dont walk in and stand next to your hooligan mates

Probably not very, I know the stewards etc get photos of people on banning orders, think the police do too, so you'd be running a risk though. I imagine if you were found to have ignored a banning order you'd be in a fair bit of bother, and certainly it should stop the person getting into bother, again due to the fact that if you've ignored a ban, gone anyway and caused trouble you'd almost certainly be getting jail time. Sneak in and watch a match quietly? Aye, I'm fairly sure that would be a piece of piss though

His ban was up in 2016.
Hed served his time. You can't keep banning someone after their ban has finished.
Obviously his ban never changed him at all. Still an odious prick

I always thought if you had a banning order you had to report to a police station at kick off? I've no idea where I've got this from if it isn't the case.

Wasn’t someone from Sunderland currently subject to a banning order arrested outside the ground before the Coventry game, don’t know if he intended to attend the game or just turned up for a ruck

That was also my understanding

still has to abide by PACE act and will probably come under the ruling of not being detained at that location for 6 hours or more (which is probably the protocol Steve was mentioning) as it will not be a designated police station.

If you go past the south stand, next to the disabled ramp, you sometimes see the doors open and the detention staff outside getting some fresh air.

not for every game but it can count for some games particularly if it is regard to international matches and IIRC they can be ordered to hand in their passport

Iirc football matches are 90 minutes not 6 hours

You're right, although there have been plenty of instances of the courts issuing a 3 year banning order from all football but the club issuing their own lifetime ban from their matches, surprised Coventry didn't do that if his previous offence(s) were serious enough for an 8 year ban, and I'll be staggered if they don't do it now

that's just the legislation rules of taking somebody to a non designated police station, in that 6 hours is the max detention time at that location.

If the detention is likely to be lengthy ie smoke bomb thrower, his detention is likely to be more that 6 hours, as he will need to be interviewed, offered solicitor etc.

I am not sure what NP protocol is, in whether they transfer all to wherever or only transfer those likely to be in more that 6 hours and bail or release those under 6 hours.

Last time I was in the custody area which was a good few years ago a custody sergeant was definitely running the show

I think it is on a case by case basis, it's a conditional thing they can add into the banning order, so some will have to report to a police station, others won't. I imagine they would probably insist on it for people guilty of serious disorder/ violence. If someone has a ban after running onto the pitch, for example, they might not bother

you are right. at one time violence had to be involved to get a banning order not sure now
