What on earth were Coventry thinking of selling a ticket for what was predicted to be a volatile game to an individual with a record of hooliganism?

Some serious questions need asking surely

Because he was no longer banned?

“The same court also heard how fellow Sky Blues supporter Ben Thackery, 36, was arrested post-match for jumping on the back of a police officer to attack another man who was being led away in handcuffs.

Thackeray ....... who had drunk five bottles of alcohol, admitted punching his victim on the temple. He did so in the belief he had been attacked by the same man in an earlier confrontation which saw his teeth knocked out.”

Got his teeth knocked out. Cheap shot hits the lad who was in cuffs. Gets arrested and done for it. I bet that coward wishes he hadn’t come to Sunderland

You might think it a silly post, but the lady does have a valid point. If a child was to be seriously injured by a bottle thrown from the stand above then just what do you think an ambulance-chasing lawyer would do to the club's finances?

Don't say 'the Public Liability Insurer's will cover it' either, because they will wriggle out of it somehow. They could start by saying the club hadn't acted to mitigate the risk that was highlighted at the Coventry game and that fan issues between SAFC and Pompey supporters generated at the cup final were in excess of those presented at the start of the season when the insurance policy was granted and so the policy was void.

Dont be silly

Some really good points were made on the WMS podcast. As a club we need to stop this cup final day out what the away support is presently enjoying. If we are still in this pitiful league next year, then allocation should be slashed

you are right. at one time violence had to be involved to get a banning order not sure now
Round here (in Derbyshire) the Football Policing Unit apply for a banning order for everyone who is arrested and convicted for offences relating to football matches
Zero Tolerance policy at both Derby and Chesterfield

If we can't handle the pressure of playing Fleetwood at home we might as well pack it in and drop down to the Vanarama

I suppose it is down to what they understand as violence. here is an extract from the gov site. answers some questions others were asking as well

There are 2 ways you can be given an FBO:

  • the police can apply to a sheriff court
  • if you're convicted of a football-related offence, a court can give you an FBO instead of – or in addition to – a sentence for the offence
An FBO can only be issued if the offence involved violence and/or disorder.

A football-related offence is a criminal offence that:

  • is connected to a football match
  • is committed in any location, including travelling to and from a football match
  • happens within a period relevant to a football match
How long FBOs last for
FBOs can last up to 10 years. The length of the ban should reflect the seriousness of the offence.

What getting an FBO means
Getting an FBO means you'll be banned from every football ground in the UK.

You'll also be banned from the national team's matches, even ones played abroad.

You may also have to hand your passport into a police station when your team plays abroad. You'll have to report at a police station on the day the game is played.

just noticed its a Scotland gov but pretty sure legislation is the same in England and wales

Coventry fan has just got 18 month suspended sentence and 5 year banning order for picking up a smoke bomb and throwing it into a crowd outside the ground before they played us.

Throwing one from concourse that you have brought yourself surely carries harsher punishment?

I’m going to repeat my self here but there is a serious loophole withsecurity procedures at all grounds not just the SOL, basically stewards are not by law able to search a minor ie under 18 without the permission of a responsible guardian or parent, I’ve been asked many times at away games for permission to search my grandson, in fact it’s the norm. If there is not a responsible adult present, which is more than possible with 16/17 year olds it’s not at all difficult to take banned items into a football ground. As I say a major loophole which the club can’t be held responsible for
Further to your point, I am a man of shall we say “advancing years” last night at Fleetwood I was guided toward the steward/security man to be searched (I have no problem with this) the guy looked at me and said “you’re alright mate” , of course he was right I had no contraband on my person but that’s not the point, people are either searched or they aren’t otherwise what is the point of so called security?

I would have thought so as inside a stadium is a more confined area with a higher concentration of people

exactly. the carrier in of the contraband is not necessary the person who uses or in this case throws.

Bad security (nice gesture for a genuine person like yourself but all people are as genuine as your good self).

The fact that you’re a club legend probably went in your favour, Benno.

Admittedly it was outside ground but wasn’t it in a pub?

Didn't realise it was in a pub to be honest but woukd still imagine throwing it within a stadium is worse. Especially when smuggled in with the intention of throwing it. Usually higher penalties for most things inside stadium isn't it? I might be wrong, like.

At Peterborough I got searched and so did young Bresslaw and 3 of is mates directly behind me as we went in. They're all 15 and I wasn't asked for permission?
