Met Police stop and search methods?

The video only captures the actual take down and the story linked clearly says he had drugs and has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

Seems fair enough to me.

It doesn't like, it says his mate was later arrested for 'assaulting a police officer' after the copper had give the other lad a beating.

After reading the article I'm less inclined to see it as justified. Seems like the lad had a bit of weed on him, probably panicked and got lashed around in cuffs.

I couldn’t really make head nor tail of article TBF. But even if it was his mate, you’d still feel a bit intimidated.

I'm confused mate, why would he be intimidated at the point in the video shown?

Yeah problem is that won't work, there's no need for the baton at all, all's he's done is make things worse in relations between Police and the youth in the area.

& the people heard behind the camera and probably factions of the local black community.

But you don’t think about the implications a week, 2 weeks, a month down the line.

You deal with what’s in front of you.

All we hear about lately is how we want our country back blah blah. We should start by taking a zero tolerance to crime.

Well we never saw the build up, he’s had a runner, he’s not really getting any support from those around him (stood filming), there’s more hatred towards the police than anyone else.

I’d imagine pretty much any situation you go into as a copper is intimidating.

I'd hate to be a police officer like. There is so much knife crime in London and they have to tackle it head on, not knowing the dangers they're entering. If that lad was dealing drugs, it's likely he has mates nearby and the copper is probably imagining the worst scenario (they have weapons). Why would the lad not just get on the floor? If he's on the floor he can't attack the copper so If I was the copper I'd also be doing everything I could to get him to the floor, especially if I know other lads may be on their way.

It just read as though you believed police were doing this in response to an assault on them.

Why is filming bad? I think if an officer is found guilty of lashing a young lad around illegally, that's a bit worse than having some weed in public (imo). This notion that police shouldn't be filmed is one I just can't agree with, it pressures them to act within the law themselves.

I'd agree with the latter. I have massive respect for the force in a general sense. Turning up to a situation not fully knowing what the outcome might be will be scary as fuck. Likewise as are some people's experiences with the police.

Or he's thought "ooo the smell of cannabis, an easily resolved crime". We don't know if the coppers force is reasonable given the situation and if it isn't, from that point you cannot expect a juvenile to process his thoughts in a reasonable manner either.

The only issue with that is that the police tend not to be going round with knives and weapons hidden to pull on the yoof of today

Are you referring to the lad in the video as the weed? The copper is potentially putting his life at risk by arresting him. He should be getting to the floor when the copper says to, that's why he's hitting him round the legs. I'm sure that's what they're meant to do anyway?

I'm saying it seems as though the lad had cannabis on him. Obviously it's still illegal, but that seems well, well over the top.

I don’t disagree with filming a situation, I think it is the best way of proving what has or hasn’t happened.

It’s more the culture surrounding it, I’d like to think my first reaction is to help the copper / lad or whoever is in trouble rather than whip my phone out to start filming. It adds to the problem in this instance rather than helps.

How feeble is the officer if he can't restrain him when he's in cuffs?

This thread didn’t turn out the way that you expected it to, did it.

The video clearly only shows a section of the incident but given the information available to me, I have absolutely no issue with the officer’s approach.

Of course, but the majority of youth don't carry knives, the same way the majority of police aren't total wankers.
