The Sopranos

It's there. Had a drink in it. My life felt complete that day. You're not allowed to take photos in it though.

Got a different name though hasn’t it? You’re right about Satriales, but the real life butchers it’s based on is just down the road and is supposedly a hangout for the jersey mob. It’s mentioned in the real Sopranos documentary on YouTube.

Aye it's called Satin Dolls. Although it does say 'Home of the original Bada Bing' on the sign outside it.

Not for me, it was a bit of a letdown. I thought a few of the final episodes were sub-par anarl. I think that the writers had lost their enthusiasm by that stage.

Should have ended like this...

FFS. It's the best writing of any film or TV show of the 21st century. David Chase definitely hadn't lost any enthusiasm. You should watch Walking Deed or some shite like that if you want season finales and pay-off endings.

And members only is the episode tony is shot.

Its open ended for me. Theres no reason really for him to be whacked, but it could be something else from a long time ago. Maybes the vipers caught up with him
That’s the great thing about it. The interpretation and symbolism in the scene.

Everything from Meadow not being able to parallel park leaving an open line of sight for the potential shooter who goes to the men’s room. Which is also homage to the Godfather restaurant scene when Corleone goes to the bathroom to get the gun (AJ lets the audience know in an earlier episode that’s Tony’s favourite scene from the film).

The two black guys that walk in and the camera focusing on them - two similar guys tried killing Tony previously.

The members only jacket is the same that Eugene wears (guy from Tony’s family who wants to move to Florida after receiving the inheritance but Tony doesn’t let him so he hangs himself). The episode where Eugene does the hit for Christopher in the restaurant is also called Members Only.

There’s so much going on to make you think about. Anyone calling it lazy etc clearly hasn’t thought much about it.

The cut to black, that tonys brother in law speculated was what happens after you die the episode or two before the end

Exactly. Other shows decided to take that route like Breaking Bad, and two or three years later nobody is discussing it anymore. People talk about how good it was but nobody is actually analyzing it anymore -- because there really is no mystery to analyze. It's been 14 years since The Sopranos aired and there's still mainstream articles every month or so trying to solve the puzzle.

Absolutely, I mentioned this in a previous comment. “I bet you never hear it coming” he says.

Also, there’s a scene where Sill is eating out at a restaurant with a guy who’s being touted as the next New York boss but he gets whacked at that meal. Sill sitting there talking but suddenly gets covered in the guys blood but doesn’t hear anything until he looks across and sees the gunman who then puts a few more shots in the bloke.

Spent a good hour watching random scenes on Youtube yesterday after you bumped the thread. It might be time for me to watch the lot again, which would by my fourth time,

I’m definitely gonna rewatch the whole thing, probably in a couple of months down the line. I reckon there’s things I’ve missed or not appreciated early on, due to having no real affiliation/emotion for the characters that I built up throughout the show.

Tony telling people that Leotardo looks like the Shah of Iran passed me by a couple of times.

 I remember that strangely.

It also seems like everyone in Tony’s family (his real one - wife and kids) seems to age but Tony stays the same apart from his hair receding a bit. Even his mrs looks like she’s struggled. Must be life with a sociopath!

You sound very much like those who convinced themselves that it was a good ending because you couldn't face the alternative.

I reckon it’s us (the audience) getting whacked. The last few episodes are basically Tony clearing house to protect his neck, and we’re the only other people that have been privy to everything he’s done, so we are the last ones to go. Hence the sudden cut to black, as you mention....you never hear it coming. And if I remember it correctly the music (Don’t stop believing) ends as soon as the cut to black on the words ‘Don’t stop.....’

I don’t like this theory. Reason being is that every time the restaurant door bell rings and someone enters, the camera cuts to Tony looking up, and then cuts to his POV looking directly at the door. It does this several times even for strangers, even before Carmella etc enter the restaurant.

When Meadow enters the restaurant however, you hear the doorbell, it cuts to Tony, but then goes black when it’s supposed to cut to his POV, meaning to me that’s when he’s shot.
