I've literally commented on the Birmingham pub bombings on that very section you've quoted?
Do you think the one remaining man should be put on trial?

What about all of those suspects that were sent letters of pardon (in effect). If we can spend so much effort putting this bloke on trial why can't we go after those suspects too?
The real Birmingham bombers should be put on trial.

They did, hundreds of years ago though. But no-one alive is responsible ( I know you aren't arguing they are), in fact you have to go back around twenty five generations before you find someone who may have been responsible. It's ludicrous to use this as an excuse for murder in the present.
We had a pretty consistent pattern of behaviour for a long time, we don't need to hold anyone responsible to acknowledge there was blatant persecution Irish Catholics imo.

My reply to the thread was simply that someone took issue with Cat saying their language was wiped out. About 2% of the population speak it today AFAIK, I might not agree with everything Cat has said in this thread but she has a point with that one.

Which institutions are responsible for which acts?
Institutions: Army, intelligence services, both houses of parliament. May as well chuck in the good old CofE for good measure depending on our time scales.

On specific acts I'm going to pick one thing as I really can't be arsed to get into a thing on this tbh.

Operation demitrius in the early 70s:

We arrested a hundreds of Irish Catholics in dawn raids, held them without trial.

Many of those interred had fuck all to do with any paramilitary activities.

The ECHR classified our treatment of them as torture, we then appealed that and it was downgraded "merely" inhumane. Turns out our ministers had authorised torture, but we hid the evidence.

In total we interred about 2000 people over 4 or 5 years. Thousands more ended up leaving their homes over it iirc.

That one always seemed like the kind of shit you'd expect to hear about Nazis or Soviets doing, not us. When I first read about it I couldn't help but wonder how many people got involved in nationalist groups after friends, relatives, or neighbours were taken in. It would certainly have made me more jaded about British rule.

As you well know, the 'letters of pardon' were issued as part of a political settlement to bring a fully intact IRA into the peace process, those were granted by the British government to bring the troubles to an end. There are however, still ongoing legacy investigations.

For example, one of those who received a 'pardon' for the Hyde Park bombings is still very much subject to investigation and prosecution. Hyde Park bomb suspect to be extradited to Northern Ireland over 1972 murders

As I said, justice should be done where possible, without exception.

Can't you read? That is what I said.

The troubles haven't been brought to an end when there is still a call for one side to be held responsible for their actions whilst pardoning the other.

I agree justice should be done i wasn't disagreeing with you

It's like a wheel. One action brought about the other. Neither side can claim the higher ground. The British became the IRA's best recruitment agency!

They aren't being 'pardoned' in the way you think, though. Investigations and prosecutions are still ongoing over 'legacy issues.' And it's a big thing. The pardons still don't actually put them above the law.

There was a political decision made by the British Government, which was actually sensible at the time, to 'pardon' paramilitary members on both sides to bring a long running conflict to an end. Obviously, the one exception in terms of major antagonists who didn't receive these pardons were the British Army, which means, they were left subject to prosecutions in a way others weren't.

If any finger pointing should be done, it should be at the British Government for leaving their armed forces exposed to prosecution in that way. But that is all you can say about it. Because you then still have to make a distinction, and say that that doesn't mean that they shouldn't face prosecution for crimes committed. And again, it's right that where possible, regardless of which organisation or paramilitary group a person was affiliated with during the troubles, that they should face justice for murders and crimes they've commited.

Normandy is in France
Normandy - Wikipedia

is one of the 18 regions of France, roughly referring to the historical Duchy of Normandy.
I certainly don't speak Old English as the people here did pre the Norman invasion.

Old English - Wikipedia
After the Norman conquest of 1066, English was replaced, for a time, as the language of the upper classes by Anglo-Norman, a relative of French. This is regarded as marking the end of the Old English era, as during this period the English language was heavily influenced by Anglo-Norman, developing into a phase known now as Middle English.

I'm not however killing people because they hammered the Old English language

Yes the Normans did invade and yes their descendants of those invaders are still here. Where do you think they went?

As I say, it doesn't make me want to go out and murder children from France or Denmark

Normandy being in France doesn't mean France invaded England. Normandy didn't even invade. The Duke of Normandy came to secure HIS claim on the English throne.

I'm not a bigot. I'm just pointing out the facts.

Just because you've fucked a country for centuries you don't get to decide it doesn't count.
Moron.
Ireland has been an independent nation for approx 100 years. At some point can those alive today stop apologising for something that had fuck all to do with them.

And as for being a moron, once again you’ve proved yourself to be the boards biggest bigoted moron.

Also deluded as you chat as if you actually live in ireland

If it had happened a long time ago and you had stopped there... of course.

You're still there
You're still f***ing with Irish domestic policy
You're still breaking agreements and f***ing Ireland in the process
You've not f***ing apologised

I’ve done fuck all you melt.

If you are referring to the U.K. government then once again you are talking utter bollocks. Anglo/Irish relations have never been as strong. It’s imbeciles like you that want to keep dragging up the past and want to keep people there.

If you were even Irish I might begin to understand this paranoia. You live in London.

Normandy being in France doesn't mean France invaded England. Normandy didn't even invade. The Duke of Normandy came to secure HIS claim on the English throne.
He didn't just pitch up on the Calais-Dover ferry and ask for a crown FFS

He came across with a combined army of Normans, Bretons and French and conquered England militarily. He then overthrew the country. How isn't that an invasion?

You are as English as anyone else on this board -so take ownership of the part you played in this.
