Chester-le-Street

 Cracking town, I'll have nowt bad said against the place. Fun and games over the years but same as everywhere I suppose. It's not a patch on the old days but still plenty of characters knocking about. Dead compared to years gone by but if you catch the right pubs at the right time it's still busy. High Crown til 3 in the morning still keeps the Cantina rep going.

aye WMC...the Butchers stinks...scruffy horrible place, used to be canny in 80's.
The whole pub scene in Chester has died...Not so long ago,had to Queue up to get in most pubs on a weekend, place is empty now...
Friday night and front street was jumping back in the day....its a shame

This, it’s fucked now

some right goings on in Togos...especially in the booths;)
Seen the bouncers launch lads down those stairs many a time, big Steve and Carsy

Weren't they a bit later when it was Crocs? Norman the Doorman from Sunderland and old Harry Main were Togo's bouncers then the likes of Carrsy and Steve came in later but aye, a fair few despatched down them stairs, myself included.

Don't know the name Bruce Atkindon but aye, Nige Scope, both Durno's and Gearsy were all around the same time, think they worked for a bloke from Washington who ran the doors then. Was it Doyle or someone? Or Swanny?

Not sure who ran them then, later on it was Eddie Elwood.
All blasts from the past..My mate big John Plumber worked there a while around late 80's.. went to school with John. Town has changed so much, used to know everybody back in the day...used to go in the Barbary coast on match day with Nickas and Nashy from Chester.

I must know you then cos went with Nickas and Nashy for years including the Barbary. Knew Duffer for years anarl.

It's died a death like, used to be heaving when I started going out around 15 years ago and that was quieter than it used to be according to me Dad.
I started going out around 2002/03 and up until around 2008 you could have a proper night out on a Sunday night. I remember the back of the red lion being packed, people going there from all over. Thursday nights were really lively around that time as well. Now it sounds like you would be hard pressed to have a proper night out even on a Saturday. Shame that like. I guess those born in the 90s never carried it on.

the Red Lion is closed, boarded up...end of a dynasty. Me uncle had his wedding in there around 65 and me aunty was a barmaid in the 50's....very sad.
