Running Thread 2019

Decent interval session for me tonight, speed is improving and so is my endurance. I felt so relaxed but was still banging out decent split times.

Probably haven’t felt this fit since I don’t know when! I want a sub 25 minute 5k so working towards that nicely!

5k in 26 mins for me tonight, really needed to get a faster paced run in after distance running at 10 minute miles. Helped a lot I think but found it hard, need to do more shorter faster runs like that thru the week to build my pace up.

One tempo run, one run which includes hill sets and one long steady run. Anything else a bonus. Quality not quantity

Started trying to get back into running over the last couple months. Hoping to get my 5k back down to sub-25 min, my PB is 23min but can't imagine hitting that again like. Partly because I hate running 5k. It's horrible. Hate every second of it! Much rather go for 10k or further, never feel like I can relax doing a 5k.

I'm about a minute and a half off the 25min mark so hopefully should get there.

14 mile in 2 hours 20. Feel pretty good other than pains in my feet and legs. Fuelling helped cheers dan!

Still struggling to see how I could run 12 mile further than that but suppose I have 9 more weeks before the run. Weight is coming off slowly but surely which should help my knees.

Won’t get a long one in next weekend for obvious reasons but might take the opportunity to do the park run and see if I can beat my 25 mins I got last time.

If you're getting up to do park run, get up earlier and do 12 mile before!

Anyone had Achilles tendinitis before ? Been running for years now and not had any bother but decided to try yoga the other night and it’s been burning up since ! It was supposed to help me as well.
Anyway - any decent home treatments/exercises to help ? How long should I rest ? Or just keep popping ibuprofens until it stops hurting ???

Achilles puts an end to more runners than anything else , it’s more often than enough a result of increasing mileage and/or doing more speed work too much too soon , know a couple of top local runners who had to pack in because of Achilles issues .
Maybe Just back off for few weeks , foam roller calfs (tight calfs add load onto Achilles ) and rub the Achilles time to time incase scar tissue built up , google eccentric heel drops as likely that is what physio would give you to do daily for 5mins . Hope it goes away / settles down .
If gets worse bite bullet and see a sports physio .
Others on here may give you better info mind @MagicRat

I’ve had problems before with the Achilles and also popped a bursa in my Achilles, rest was the only way for me, when I got back running again it was little and slow and a gradual build up over about 4 month

Had a canny blast round the northern road relays in Birkenhead today. Not too many NE clubs there though, Morpeth strong as usual as were Tyne Bridge. Hopefully it’s a bit more of a northerly venue next year

I get calf trouble mate but not Achilles tendinitis. Always recommend lots of foam rolling and heel drop exercises. I’d see a physio though for some proper advise as Achilles stuff can be a bit more severe
