Having a pop at Sunderland fans

She's not having a pop at Sunderland fans.

You lot are bizarre y'know? You're carrying on like she spends all day every day on this issue to the detriment of her other responsibilities. I'd have thought fans of your club would welcome parliamentary debate over the way football clubs are run, and the impact that has on its local community. Y'know, given the way your clubs has been run into League 1 by bad ownership.

Onwurah has fucked up by making it too much about Newcastle United as we're not the club most affected by bad ownership, she should have talked more about Blackpool, Charlton, Blackburn, Portsmouth, Leeds and so on. She should have spoken with the MPs of those areas and gained their support.

Instead she comes across poorly and makes the whole thing seem like a whinge, instead of the actual issue it is.

She's being an idiot but that's a stupid argument. A Premier League club shouldn't spend money to sign good players because they've achieved success and acquired money?

No. I’ve not said that at all. I’m saying it’s not the business of a Labour MP to use parliamentary time to campaign for a football club to spend millions on players in both fees and wages. Ideologically it’s wrong and it’s simply not a political issue.

You mean like being a successful buisness which employs hundreds of her constituents.
Instead she want's the buisness to rack up millions of pounds worth of debt and potentially have to make people redundant. (Leeds Utd)

Your club hasn’t been run anywhere near as badly as any of those clubs, you’ve not suffered in the same fashion as any of those clubs either. Which is why it was ridiculous for her to raise the issue. She didn’t raise it because she was concerned about the direction the game was going in. She raised it because Newcastle supporters, largely her constituent base, were getting uppity because Ashley hadn’t spent money on players. It’s as simple as that

It isn't about the running of football clubs responsibly (Ashley runs his very well financially), it's about getting Ashley to spend more money on players because Newcastle and the city apparently have a right to that. Utterly bizzare, but not unexpected from that deluded lot.

It isn’t a parliamentary issue, she’s point scoring with daft bastards like you who honestly believe she is doing it for the good of football.

Typical mag, sucking up the bullshit. You’re an extremely well run club, no need to waste taxpayers money on your club, plenty other clubs are far worse off but don’t go on like spoilt brats, I’d be embarrassed if it were my club.

You lot love the fuckin limelight.

I’m a constituent of hers. She’s not representing my interests in the slightest. I’m a Labour voter and a Sunderland supporter. I can’t see any wider negative implications on the city of Mike Ashley’s chairmanship. Their stadium is regularly full and as a result I’m sure the city is constantly busy on match days with people eating and drinking, using public transport (that is inadequate to cope).

She’s used parliamentary time to whinge that Ashley isn’t spending enough on vastly overpriced and overpaid footballers. What she is effectively saying is she advocates the redistribution of her constituents wealth into the pockets of filthy rich young men. As far as I’m concerned, that’s about as far from socialism as you can get. The whole thing is an absolute embarrassment given the current state of the nation.
Serious question - will you vote for her?

We agree except for where you say ideologically it's wrong. If you mean for an MP to try and dictate to a successful business then I agree with that too.

Our club ended up in League 1 through attempting to spend our way to the (relative) top, and f***ing up at almost every turn. If anything we should've been more conservative with money, the polar opposite to what this lass is suggesting for your club.

Weird that being relegated twice in less than ten years is considered a success on here but multiple top 3 finishes in less than 10 years in the top tier isn’t.

She publishes graphs on her website on the number of issues her constituents raise, nhs, police, benefits, etc. She’s inundated with complaints about nufc

Has anyone actually said it’s a success? People just seem to be pointing out that running the club sustainably and at a profit might actually be a good idea.
