Sold players for £80m, reinvested £50/55m.
Don't have players who'd command such high fees as last time, and I am still baffled how Spurs paid £30m for Sissoko, a year before the market went crazy/crazier

What about the wage bill for that league though?

He backed you and you can't say otherwise...

The more I think about, I kinda hope they stay up in 17th and finish 17th the following 4 or 5 seasons or so. We know how shit that is. If they come down they’ll probably only blitz the league again with Mike Ashley’s backing.

If it wasn't for the Sissoko fee slot of that net spend bollocks would be out the window.

He done well getting that especially with Levy, had his pants around his ankles.

The wage bill is a bit skewed as it included promotion bonuses and wages for players contracts in their entirety.
£112m allegedly.
Although there are bonuses every year, they still come under the wage bill...

The year we went down it was around £75m.
We'll give £6m for Benitez compared to maybe £1m for McClaren.

But after Cisse, Sissoko, Townsend, Wijnaldum, Colocinni, Taylor, Janmaat, Marveaux, De Jong, Riviere, Obertan, Krul, Thauvin, Cabella (and maybe some more I've forgotten) all left......
how does the wage bill increase by £40m by signing Gayle, Hayden, Hanley, Ritchie, Lazarr, Yedlin, Murphy, Diame, Clark... between the 10 or 11 players brought in, they would have to be earning on average £4m more per year than the ones who went out.

The £40m hike in wages makes no sense, as those coming in would have been earning less than those who departed.
A club loses £120m in tv revenue but then a man supposedly as shrewd as Ashley allows a £40m hike in wages, even though it's not guaranteed we would go back up. Doesn't make sense and should be taken with a shovel of salt.

Edit; i know we got £40m parachute payment, so adjust the figure of £120m to £80m lost in tv income, but with no guarantee of going up that parachute payment would decrease the following year

Without the Sissoko fee, it would be roughly breaking even, but it did happen so lets not ignore it.

I'm on about the record high wage bill for the Championship, he backed you to get you to bounce right back up.

Yet hes a wanker..

Righto...

There was a sense of resignation early on, even before Christmas, that we were going down. There wasn't any kind of hounding out.
People thought he should be sacked but there wasn't chanting for it or anything like you suggest.

As an aside, how would it be down to him?

The net spend you all bang on about

Aww come on man, he was, and deservedly so as he was shit.

The fans forum sent an open letter to the board calling for him to be sacked.
There wasn't the abuse in the stands or chanting of McClaren out etc, the kind of supporter discontent you'd associate with PardewOut.com

We entered the bottom 3 at the end of August. Had a couple of weeks out of it during the rest of the season. He was sacked and rightly so, but there wasn't a huge movement for him to be sacked like Pete suggests

To say Ashley didn't back you when you went down is crazy, look at what you spent.

Like talking to a wall though as you'd never admit the big bad Ashley helped you come back up.

It's like a cult man...

So you wanted him out and wrote a letter?

Maybe not to the extreme of sackpardew.com even though he got you 5th that season.

Still wanted him out yet give Rafa the bonus of the net spend bollocks due to the previous "regimes" signings

Ashley sanctioned the spending on transfers(generated by sales of £80m), I've never denied that.
What I question is the increase of the wage bill by £40m despite losing a minimum of £80m tv money.
