Wrong. We offered him what he wanted

We did but we offered him 250k signing on fee and his agent decided that would only cover backdated pay (now till end of season when new contract kicked in) and wanted a foreign move. His agent didn’t want him to go to Bordeaux but there’s where he went and got a 1 million quid lumper.

Afternoon, I know a lot of people doubted what I said about Maja but I’m going to put out what I was told, and yous can make of it what you want, I didn’t put it all on here as it would have jeopardised the deal for the club.

All this information is directly from Maja’s agent and at the time I got it, the club had no idea about this, therefore this was passed on to SD to help the club get a better deal.

  • Leeds bid £2 million in the summer and it was knocked back
  • Bain offered Maia and Asoro new deals, both turned them down
  • Asoro had an offer from Italy but his agent ruined that
  • Maja was offered £10K at Sunderland to stay, with a substantial signing on fee- this was quadrupled by Bordeaux with his parents receiving a substantial fee
  • His agent spoke to Bordeaux, PSV, Werder Bremen, Roma and Milan (not sure what one)
  • Palace and West Ham put no offer in, his agent DID NOT want him to go there,
  • The plan was always to go abroad, and the dream move was PSV

But most importantly

  • Maja was told to keep the club ‘sweet’ while his agent sorted a deal
  • His agent said he wasn’t good enough to play in the Premier League
  • He was always going abroad
  • The plan is for him to go abroad and return to the PL for ‘towards 10 million’ whilst developing his game
  • His agent said he could have got ‘bare’ £15K a week at Milan or Roma
  • We were in for Nchema (spelling) from Arsenal but they have the same agent

But

  • Maja said to Ross he wanted to sign a new deal, he never had any intention and the club genuinely thought he would
  • His agent told Maja he would take all the flak whilst he kept them sweet
  • His agent said he would protect Maja and told him to feed the info he wanted to stay at the club to keep the club and fans onside- to stop Maja from being in a difficult situation at the club
  • His agent didn’t want him to move to Ligue 1 and actually said it was the ‘final option’
That’s all lads.
The thing I don’t understand, and you may know the answer, is why he and his agent didn’t just wait until the summer and move on a Bosman? He’d have more options in terms of clubs and more than likely would stand to earn more money for himself and his agent in wages and signing on fees (Bordeaux could have given him an extra £1m to sign in the summer instead of giving us £1.5 to £3.5m now for example).

Did his agent lack faith in him that he could continue his form so thought his stock had peaked and best to cash in now?

Why all the anger at him? Put yourself in his shoes, he is looking around and seeing the writing on the wall, why on earth would people begrudge a young lad a decent career. We as a fan base may be ok with our club rotting down here but we don’t need to drag decent young lads careers down with us ffs. He played, played well, and when he had the confidence to believe his career may be something more than a decade making up the numbers in the second division he took his chance.
He hasn’t moved on with the thought of bettering his career in his head, he’s moved for the money, not decrying him for this but lets not try and fudge the facts.

Didn’t want to risk getting injured and losing out altogether possibly.
