Maja

Afternoon, I know a lot of people doubted what I said about Maja but I’m going to put out what I was told, and yous can make of it what you want, I didn’t put it all on here as it would have jeopardised the deal for the club.

All this information is directly from Maja’s agent and at the time I got it, the club had no idea about this, therefore this was passed on to SD to help the club get a better deal.

  • Leeds bid £2 million in the summer and it was knocked back
  • Bain offered Maia and Asoro new deals, both turned them down
  • Asoro had an offer from Italy but his agent ruined that
  • Maja was offered £10K at Sunderland to stay, with a substantial signing on fee- this was quadrupled by Bordeaux with his parents receiving a substantial fee
  • His agent spoke to Bordeaux, PSV, Werder Bremen, Roma and Milan (not sure what one)
  • Palace and West Ham put no offer in, his agent DID NOT want him to go there,
  • The plan was always to go abroad, and the dream move was PSV

But most importantly

  • Maja was told to keep the club ‘sweet’ while his agent sorted a deal
  • His agent said he wasn’t good enough to play in the Premier League
  • He was always going abroad
  • The plan is for him to go abroad and return to the PL for ‘towards 10 million’ whilst developing his game
  • His agent said he could have got ‘bare’ £15K a week at Milan or Roma
  • We were in for Nchema (spelling) from Arsenal but they have the same agent

But

  • Maja said to Ross he wanted to sign a new deal, he never had any intention and the club genuinely thought he would
  • His agent told Maja he would take all the flak whilst he kept them sweet
  • His agent said he would protect Maja and told him to feed the info he wanted to stay at the club to keep the club and fans onside- to stop Maja from being in a difficult situation at the club
  • His agent didn’t want him to move to Ligue 1 and actually said it was the ‘final option’
That’s all lads.
And we offered him a another pay rise if we were promoted, don't what % though.

So correct me if I’m wrong but you’re saying we offered him £10K a week to stay plus £250K signing on fee and these were quadrupled by Bordeaux?

My thoughts exactly.

My apologies, English isn’t my strong point.

He was offered £10K a week at us, no idea on Bordeaux.

But we offered him £250K signing on fee. Bordeaux afford him circa 1 million.

His agent wasn’t happy as he basically stated Maja’s signing on fee would essentially be backdated pay if he has signed a new deal in the summer. If that makes sense.

Why all the anger at him? Put yourself in his shoes, he is looking around and seeing the writing on the wall, why on earth would people begrudge a young lad a decent career. We as a fan base may be ok with our club rotting down here but we don’t need to drag decent young lads careers down with us ffs. He played, played well, and when he had the confidence to believe his career may be something more than a decade making up the numbers in the second division he took his chance.
He doesn't owe us anything, however the dishonesty to JR and co doesnt sit right

Still something not right with this deal. Looks like we are going to pay Wigan around £750,00 for Grigg, why not give that to Maja?

So basically the information is that Bordeaux are paying him 40k a week? Thats a load of bollocks for a bench warmer at best IMHO?

The manager doesnt even know who he is?

maja wanted to leave ... dont believe he wanted to stay, it was all bullshat. Bloke was stringing us along ... like i said, we should have lobbed him in the basterd under 23s

Why? He scored twice and earned us four points in January
Maybe so, but if he had not intimated that he loved the club and was following his agents advice. Later stated he was to dicuss Sunderlands offer with his family and agent, then would advise the management of his decision.
I have no idea if this took place, but if from the outset he had come out and said he definitely wanted to leave our transfer negotiations would have commenced a lot earlier.

Just plain common sense, not enough of your like on this board.

Thanks for that.

I’ve put myself in his shoes and I still don’t believe he’s made the right decision personally.

His stocks high at the moment after half a decent season but if he penned a new deal with us and carried on banging in the goals come the end of the season he’s in a miles better position than he ever would have been before he signed for Bordeaux, both in a financial and footballing sense.

He could have had a nice little sign on fee with us, a very handsome pay packet for a league one level player, the chance to continue looking very impressive in a league where he’s been banging them in and come the end of the season, the chance for a better contract from us should we go up or from a club better than Bordeaux.

Right now it looks to me as if he’s went for the quick buck and long term I fear this is the complete wrong decision for him. From what the Bordeaux manager had said he doesn’t know if he’s going to be in his immediate plans which isn’t exactly good for a young lad on the up.

I hope I’m proven wrong and he does do well personally but I feel like he will just end up in a similar situation to Asoro. Maybe I’m completely missing the point and it’s not even about the football anymore.

Just like to say, fuck him, this is the biggest club he will ever play for.
Club and promotion is the priority, move on.

Quite clearly you haven't.
