BREAKING: Josh Maja is on the verge of joining French club Bordeaux for a deal that will rise to £3.5m.
The two clubs are haggling over the fine details of the deal. Personal terms will not be an issue.

3.5m is good however, its the guaranteed money we will receive thats important.

If the fee is £3.5 mil with maybe 10-15% for future sell on fee, we've got a good deal in my opinion. Good luck to him, he was never going to stay so best get money for him. Sunderland will still be here after he's gone!

We absolutely have to mate. He’s not the first decent player we’ve had that’s buggered off and he won’t be the last. How we respond this time though, is absolutely crucial.
Yep. As per any incoming and outgoing. If we can get someone ala Grigg and get a half decent fee for Maja then that's a canny outcome to the situation. I'd like to see some kind of sell on clause put into a player we've developed

We should never have been in a situation where the new owners were coming into a club with so many promising youngsters coming towards the end of their contracts.

Gooch, Maja, Asoro, Embleton, Hume etc.

For the past few years we seemed to be happy handing out big contracts to players who didn’t want to be here, or bringing in other clubs youngsters while forgetting about our own.

And while we were doing all of that we weren’t even sending our kids out on loan for experience or to test them.

Our owners walked into an absolute shit fest saying the “youth” was only a small problem in the grand scheme of it all...

the annoying thing is if the transfer fee is public other clubs will request a higher fee for the players we are interested in. Swings and round abouts.
