When you say that, old programmes and films do carry sweet memories of being with family as a child, all gathered around the tv, in comfort and warmth and not having a care in the in the world.Going to see it next Sunday at the Tyneside. Afternoon tea first, then the film. Looking forward to it as it brings back great memories for me of when I used to sit and watch them with my Dad.
My main care was whether Dad, who sat in front of the Rediffusion box on the wall would suddenly get bored and start playing about with the channels. When you say that, old programmes and films do carry sweet memories of being with family as a child, all gathered around the tv, in comfort and warmth and not having a care in the in the world.
I thought they did. Laurel did most of the writing and was in the driving sear career-wise while Hardy just liked to play golf but apparently they got on well.Apparently they didn’t get on in real life.
I loved when the 'Telly Man' came to empty the money out of the back of the telly, it meant extra pocket money from what he gave back to my dad.My main care was whether Dad, who sat in front of the Rediffusion box on the wall would suddenly get bored and start playing about with the channels.
Rediffusion box, had forgot about that. Three channels, and the radio through the telly. My main care was whether Dad, who sat in front of the Rediffusion box on the wall would suddenly get bored and start playing about with the channels.

I liked abbot and Costello but L&H in a different league for me.
We used to leave radio 1 on all day for the budgie! Seriously.Rediffusion box, had forgot about that. Three channels, and the radio through the telly.
We were. I remember during school holidays putting the telly on and watching a bbc2 trade test transmission about some European Expo or other. Sitting eating cornflakes and watching. And then doing the same thing the next day!If my mam wanted a bit piece and quiet on a morning, from two hyper two-year-olds, she only had to hope that BBC were showing either Laurel and Hardy/Flash Gordon. Apparently my brother and I would just sit there engrossed whilst they were on.
Must have been easily pleased back then

I was always more an Abbott and Costello bairn, used to watch all their stuff with my Da.
Should really catch up on the owld Laurel and Hardy stuff.
This is my memory of my dad laughing at Tom and Jerry 10 to 6 every nightAs gas been said true memories of childhood and the sound of my dad's laughter. When I watch them now, for the incalculable amount of times, I still hear him laughing. It's just tinged with an extra sense of poignancy.
ps .Tom and Jerry can have the same effect but only the older, proper ones
Stan was my no. 1 hero when younger. Utterly brilliant.
