OK, so I got the system built and everything seems to work. However, I was busy installing windows and got to the registration process, when the screen suddenly changed res so only the top half was visible. As all of the Next buttons are on the bottom half, I can’t go any further. I’ve restarted it severeral times - the motherboard logo appears ok - then it jumps to the point I left the installation at and the screen is wrong again.
How do I fix this? Should I install/update the drivers for the board and gpu before the win install?

Tried pressing Enter instead of clicking Next?

You could always plug it into your telly while you install. Does the monitor not have an auto adjust feature? Mine has an 'auto' button you press that'll stretch the screen to match the resolution.

I’ve just delid me CPU. Initially overclocked the i7 8700k to 4.8 ghz 1.35v - ran 12 passes of prime 95 on 1344 setting. Temps were hitting 89-91 across all 6 cores.

Carried out the delid.

Upped the Overclock to 5.0 ghz at 1.35v and max temps across all 6 cores is 69 degrees on the same prime 95 settings above. Unreal!

Xmas money has been converted into new parts. Bought the Lian-Li PC0-11 dynamic case and a 360 AIO due to the wife (no) giving me a bigger part of the house .

Just need a usb header connection fitting to allow me to get the 3rd fan squeezed in the bottom between the other 2.

Upped the overclock from 5.0ghz to 5.2ghz (i7-8700k) and it’s stable over a 4 hour period on prime 95 - max temp was 65 degrees (delid chip)

Water cooled?

Water cooled?

That’s the AIO (all in one cooler), it’s basically a closed loop you fit without taking anything apart like you do with water cooling.

Looks good mate, but I hope you can turn those lights off. When I was a teenager I had lights on mine that changed with the music, but after 24 hours the novelty wore off and they were unplugged since you couldn’t turn them off.

 Aye ya can turn them off. Think i’m going to set them all as white for the time being anyway, but of ambient lighting going on

Water cooled?

Just AIO on the chip.

I did a hard tube water cooled build for me mate once. Never again

My sons new graphics card was £500 so i would expect to pay more than £600 for a full PC. His first gaming PC was about £1100 around 6 years ago from that place in Grangetown.
That is the problem, graphic card tends to br first to go. Do you buy another or downgrade graphics sell, give away and replace pc

Vi box worth a look.

nice looking case that

you not had a look to see if theres a adaptor of some kind to connect that other AIO to your GPU?

After my experience with a AIO I would recommend checking it on a regular basis to make sure its not leaking,

Nzxt do a gpu bracket that lets you mount an aio to it.

I’m undecided on wether or not to chuck the old parts in me work computer. Either that or sell them. They’re only 3 month old so I reckon i’ll get decent whack for them.

Next stage is to wait for the GPU riser to come back in stock, means I’ll be able to vertically mount it on the bottom

I’m an absolute knacker for keeping all parts the same brand, it’s an OCD of mine. I couldn’t buy the Nzxt part because I don’t have anything else Nzxt in the case

Yeah I'm the same like. Tend to always go for evga psu and gpu.

Building my first budget system in 7 year.
7 year means I’m on catch up with the latest trends etc.
My last system cost £350 and managed to run Bf5 so I’ve pretty squeezed every penny for value from my parts.

Couple a questions - Am I right saying the I3’s are better than the AMD Ryzen alternatives?
Am I right saying its pointless getting anything less than a 1050 ti otherwise it’ll go out of date very soon

Any idea what your budget is for CPU?

I don't want to spend more than £500 total.

I'm after the components which will pound for pound give you the best value, not nessecarily the best. For example, I'm still running an AMD 6300 which is probably the pound for pound king when it comes to value, it's so out of date it's unreal but for £75 7 year ago it's been amazing.

The choices were an i3 8350k or an AMD Ryzen 5 2400

UserBenchmark: AMD Ryzen 5 2400G vs Intel Core i3-8350K

You’ve probably seen this already, but definitely go with the i3. You can squeeze even more power out of it by doing a basic overclock also (providing you get the K). Depending on what cooler you’re using and on the silcone lottery, you can overclock them to 5ghz without a delid.

Have a look on eBay also for gpu’s, now that the 2080’s are out, i’ve seen 980ti’s on there for £180/£200. Mental

Thinking about delidding and overclocking my i7-7700k some point soon like. Also thinking about selling my reference model 1080ti and getting an aftermarket 1080ti. Reference model runs a bit warm for my liking as it's got the blower style fan. Idle temps on it are 54c.

CPU idle temps are 38c, which isn't bad for the 7700k.

Makes a huge difference like. My idles are 25/26 and i’m now on a 5.2 OC.

I have the MSI 1080ti, OC’d with max power (120%), core clock +125 and mem clock +550.

Let me know if you want to delid, i’ll borrow you me tool, alcohol, silicone and clear nail varnish :)lol:) ya just need some liquid metal. I used thermal grizzly conductonaut

Too costly I'm afraid. Means I'd have to go extra on a bigger PSU aswell.

I originally budgeted for a standard 1050 but didn't realise it was an extra 30 quid or so for an extra 2 gb memory

No brainier then! Good luck with it
