Gaming Computer Specifications?

I built a ryzen 1600x system last year,

I wouldnt power a firestick with a CIT psu nevermind a PC I was spending £500 on

Quick question since you seem to know a bit about building Pc's and that, I bought a PC from awd-it about 18month back and it's still working spot on was just a budget build with a g4560 paired with a 1050ti. Anyway a few month back I won a Scan competition and I have a new motherboard and cpu sitting here but I'm scared to take mine apart  good cpu and motherboard as well, is it fairly straight forward? seems simple enough on videos I've watched just scared to lose my Windows and stuff

It will likely cause issues with windows, changing the motherboard normally changes the hardware ID so you licence key will become invalid.

Also just plugging a hard drive with a windows install into another system isnt usually a good idea due to driver and chipset compatability.

Its better to do a fresh install of windows.

As i mentioned earlier you can buy a new key off ebay for less than a fiver, if you can back the data up you want to keeps its not that much of a issue really.

Ahh see that sounds like a right pain and above what I know what to do  I phoned that computer shop next to Kittys Kitchen a while back and he quoted me 30quid to do it I think I'll just wait until I have some spare money haha

for some reason it deleted half my test from a post earlier.

I built a ryzen 1600 system last year, to replace a old am3 fx6300 system. I used pretty decent branded parts but falcon were selling a fx6300 gaming system with crappy parts for allot more than I paid for the ryzen one.

Infact it was still more expensive than I paid for the fx6300 system many years before, and at the time that was a pretty old CPU.

£30 quid isnt too bad tbh if he does a good job of it.

What kind of CPU and motherboard did you win, is it another intel ?

Another Intel aye, won a i5-8400 and a tuf b360 plus motherboard

you could probably get a pre-built i3-8100 with a GTX 1050TI for around 550

i struggled using partpicker to self-build thr same for any realistic savings

as people have said, its graphics card prices that are the bitch at the mo

PC Specialist are normally pretty decent for self-spec pricing.

Overockers, whilst they have an extensive forum, are the most expensive company in the UK. Just pipping Falcon computers. Both are also currently massively overpricing their chips due to the Intel shortage. Supply and demand and all that

The one I posted on previous page beats that for £580, really good deal I think

intel to intel should be less problematic

I would just back up the stuff you want to keep so you have a fall back. Transfer the hardware over and try. Then if worst comes to worst you have to buy a new key off ebay for about £3 or what ever. If there are no driver conflicts windows should still boot up and you can add the key in windows. if a key becomes invalid you can still get into windows , it just has a watermark on the screen saying activation required.

Reinstalling windows is easy enough. You download the install stuff from the website and create a bootable usb stick.

Plug it in and turn your pc on then follow the onscreen instructions. If it doesnt boot to the usb stick press f2 and enter the bios, select the usb as the boot device and after a restart it will boot from the usb so you can install it.

The more you do with a pc yourself the more proficient you will become at it and the more able to deal with future situations. Its just getting over the fear of the unknown to try it.

I still have windows installation tool on a usb after installing Windows my self onto this PC with an Ebay key, I dont think there's much I dont really want to lose off my SSD really I might just give it a try my self over Christmas

I did register my Windows to an email which I read you can then transfer over so it might still work anyway

My youngest has decided he wants a gaming computer for Christmas.

Looking at a tower system, not a laptop

What sort of specification should I be looking for?

Any recommendations?

Thanks
i7 processor
Nvidia 970 graphics card or higher. Don't go AMD etc.

If you want the specs on mt gaming pc pm me

Right, I’m buying parts this afternoon, based on this spec I was given. Anyone care to advise me otherwise, or will this be a pretty decent build for a 12 year old who currently only plays Steep and BG drive.

Ryzen 5 last generation is cheaper .
16 gig ram .
Rx570 4 gig . Or rs 580 8 gig
256gig ssd
1tb HD’s
600 w power

Although tbh before anyone takes my advice I should probably preface and say I am currently having a nightmare with my PC.

Last thurs I decided to treat my self and buy a vega 64 GPU which overclockers were selling on a tremendous deal.

Hours after ordering my boot hard drive died. So I had to get a new SSD.

That eventually arrived this thursday and I got everything up and running. But when I opened a game my PC would switch off.

It turns out there is a compatability issue with my Seasonic PSU and vega GPUs. Seasonic just released a statement addmitting it on the day I installed the GPU.

It only applies to a certain model of power supply made before January 2018, of course I have that PSU which I purchased on the 2nd of January and that GPU.

ps ignore the nvidea fan boy

That looks pretty good to me, if you the the 570 or 580 from overlockers they have some decent game bundles at the mo which you could maybe sell on.

There's fuck all right with it aswell.

3 years down the line their drivers are woeful

Amd are the best chips price to performance wise at the minute. Crazy to just discount them completely
Reason being they last a couple of years and then you find their drivers are shite. Nvidia gets the most out of your hardware for the longest.

I thought you were talking cpu wise. Ryzen chips are great and support for am4 socket should last a while. Nowt wrong with amd gpus either but they are a bit behind Nvidia.
