You’re on about lack of respect whilst simultaneously saying people are being venomous and vitriolic with very little foundation and are also saying people have achieved nothing in their lives without having the foggiest clue who they are, what they do or what they’ve achieved.

People have an opinion on Murray’s tenure. Some remember him for the stadium and 7th placed finishes etc, some remember him for the awful days at the end and the early 90s. Some consider both and give credit where it’s due and criticise for what they think he should have done.
Think he’s just a bairn mate. He seems desperate for a reaction

The facts are he had a couple of decades to get it right, he never did and he failed multiple times along the way.

If it was a building competition Bob would be top boy.

Professional football, not so much

Got miles closer than anyone else has in nigh on 60 years and from a lower starting point than most.

I despised him for a while too in the 90's, thought he was the root of our problems. bright enough to see there's bigger things at play and he was just one man doing his best, where many men with more money have failed before and since.

I never despised him but othher than that, Brilliantly summed up

I agree with some of what you say and of course Sir Bob made mistakes but some of the comments on here by supposed sunderland fans are quite simply wrong, disgusting and disrespectful. As is coming out there is an agenda by some.

Certainly the vast majority of sunderland fans I know certainly respect Sir Bob's efforts for the Club and City.

If Boris Bore is such an expert he should have bought the Club and showed us how to do it.

ha thanks!

He should have backed Smith, but couldn't or wouldn't, apparently because of the Barry Batey case. He should have made Reid buy first season up in the PL, he shouldn't have messed about with the Washington stadium for so long, he should have got Reid into line earlier or sacked him, but that would have been harsh and he shouldn't have appointed wilko, not Butcher. He didn't want to appoint Crosby but the FA cup run and fan pressure seemed to push him into it.

He had the foresight to go for the stadium and the Aol. He did appoint Smith and he did appoint Reid and he gave Reid money when we didn't really have it and he gave him possibly too much rope as he believed in him. Can't really criticise too much of that tbf. Much of it was hard to call at the time.

Lend me your chamois and I’ll dry your eyes

I’m down on him because he had 2 decades to get it right. A few fuck ups along the way are fine but after 2 decades I think he had ample time to change hearts and minds

Short had what 10 years, with the head start of a crap ton off TV money, the ground and the AoL which must have made getting managers and players to come up here easier.

I think Short messed up much more when you take in the advantages that Short had and in 20 years time all we will have to remember him by is a "milk cup" final ( I know not the real name but always be that to me, my first final and all ), a lucky tenth place finish and the 6 in a row.
Oh lets not forget the other wonderful things Short was in charge over:-

AJ
Maggie
Some fantastic transfer business ( Sunderland's hall of shame: club's (mostly bad) signings under Short )
Paolo Di Canio
Our lovely pink seats
The whole Ricardo Alverez mess

So imo Short did more harm than Bob ever did.

How much of hiw own money did he put in over those 20 years and what salary did he take? What was his eventual balance from the £2m he spent in 1986 and the £5m he received in 2005?
The amount of time it takes to develop projects like the SOL or BOL in terms of business planning and pulling together the funding package must be immense for mere mortals.

However, for someone like Boris Bore well it would be a doddle.

Poor moist eyed BB is also ignoring the fact that the FA begged BM to come on board to the Wembley and St.George;s Park projects as they were in such trouble. English football has a lot to thank Sir RS Murray for......not that he'd ever let us forget that of course

I’ve asked that, and the profit he made when he sold, he didn’t seem able to answer
Because he doesn't know and is only interested in slagging the bloke off. Murray made lots of mistakes but got a lot of things right. The bloke is a Sunderland fan and only ever wanted the best for the club. He was out of his depth by the time we were in the big league and couldn't back us in the way we needed to be backed.

I wonder how many man hours were put in by Sir Bob and John fickling when developing the SOL and AOL?

I would say a lot!

If as Boris Bore states they made money I say fair play to them but I dare wager it was no where near the amount of time and effort they put into the club. Unfortunatly some people dont realise the amount of effort that has to go into these projects...same as the BOL.

Cant disagree with a word of that, for me it always comes back to he made mistakes, but I don’t believe for one minute he didn’t want to do what was best for the club he loved

Short simply wasn't here or wasn't pn

We can all quote the mistakes, but there were good decisions too. east to criticise but I guess being in that position gives extra pressures too.

100% my view

I think the good decisions outwighed the mistakes
