Grew up in Spennymoor area and in our school I remember it as being 49% Sunderland , 49% Newcastle, 1% Boro and 1% miscellaneous.

That was before the Keegan years.

Might be wrong but that's how I remember it. Particular areas seemed more Mag like Byers Green village, whereas Kirk Merrington village was more Sunderland.

In two years him and his dad were fully fledged armchair nufc fans. The father even did the accent thing I noticed he was sounding more Tyneside than when we first moved in.

I'm sure all Durham mags are quite happy with their lot. As I'm sure are all the Geordies who support Sunderland. The idea that you can accept supporters from other parts of the world supporting Sunderland but can't accept those from Durham supporting Newcastle smacks if jealousy and bitterness.
