aye mainly because of how precious you get about it yet take every opportunity to bait @GordonMuchallNo1Fan

personally i'd rather the two of you just ignored each other and the cricket forum could be a forum for talking about oh i don't know cricket.
I talk about cricket love how people have a go at me yet say nothing to others, ha way do you expect me just ignore sly digs or someone that several times likes to question how often I go when they are clueless on the matter

no i just remember this is your patter and it's irritating. you were much the same about pringle a year or two back and yes people would mention you when he did well and yet if he didn't play well you'd immediately pipe up saying 'nobody talking about pringle now are they' or 'oh i see pringle has done great again'

you love to play the poor me card but play up to it so deserve everything you get imo.

anyway sod it i'll just pop you back on ignore, forget all about you and wonder why everyone is arguing with themselves again

Lewis got the easiest ride he’s ever had at a members forum.
Sick of people being all wind and piss. Was waiting for it to kick off but yet again people are all mouth and no action.
Marty started off about the current game and how well we have done today to turn the game around. Lewis on about how much no toss has on games at this time of year. Talked about signing and how pleased they are with Bancroft, Lees, Salisbury and Ben Raine. They’re still in talks with Colly but McCarthy will be leaving as they would have to register him as an overseas player.
Bloke was asking why they have massive boundaries in 20/20 when people come to watch 4’s & 6’s being hit. Lewis said it was his decision to play with big boundaries as he thought it gave Durham an advantage. Bloke looked a bit pissed off when I said that I come to 20/20’s to see Durham win and not for 4’s & 6’s. Lewis actually said thanks for that mate. (Our friend GM No1 fan will not be happy).
The new CEO Tim Bostock was next up and explained how he got the job and his track record. I asked him about Glamorgan being given £2.5 M for not staging a Test Match after the shit they gave us. He explained that Durham CCC had been given a similar figure but not in cash. He hinted that it had been taken off the interest free loan we received and that he actually did not expect us to have to pay any of the loan back if we stayed within our financial targets. He said he’d recently been to a meeting at the ECB and Durham are not in the top 10 Counties they are worried about financially. Marty brought up about Hampshite having to sell their ground the Council to raise much needed funds and Glamorgan also being in financial trouble after both building Test Match grounds at the FTECB’s request (sound familiar?).
Next up was John Windows & Neil Killeen. John spoke about the Academy leaving the NEPL and Killa spoke about the 2nd Team championship win and reaching the 20/20 Finals Day.
Overall a very positive forum. I was just massively disappointed that the expected fireworks were not present. What a let down.

How is Pringle doing these days

So nobody had a go at Lewis what a surprise

Haven't long been home having had to head off after the game on family business but did get the chance to have a good chat with Chris Rushworth and I was encouraged by what I heard and his comments on the website/social media this evening back that up.

I'm just about warmed up, that was a cold stint up with the "upper tier elite today".

Anyway onto the cricket;

Walked in........... all out.......... massive sigh and head shake.

So we started bowling and Rushworth was unreal, genuine top top class. Rimmington looked shit, did we really replace him for Onions?

19 lead............ "very useful" we said on that wicket.

Durham bat again and we just come to expect the usual shit................. Steel and Lees batted very well indeed and I'm still confused about the Lees dismissal now. Steel was top class, he's a good cricket, taken a bit stick on here, folk forget he's only 22 and has already captained this side. He'll be a good'un and he showed he class again today as he did last home game vs Northants.

Smith a lovely catch in the field, but truly awful batting today and his place must be under serious threat?

Clark was batting very well and again in the 20s...... out

Richardson, again started well stuck around for a valuable partnership with Steel, then out of nowhere he nicks behind and is gone after looking in no danger, very typical Richardson we all said.

Will try and get tomorrow off as I actually enjoyed the cricket today and overall was encouraged with some of the things I saw with bat and ball.

I think the lead is 200 when i left the ground, would be nice to get up to 300.

Chuffed for Steel though, couldn't be happier.

gutted i missed the rushy fireworks, had work today and arrived literally as we started our second innings.

said the same yesterday about rimmington, still can't believe we duffed off bunny to give the same contract he wanted to someone his age. anyhow, water under the bridge.

smith i'm not sure about, depends how useful his spin is, perhaps moving him down the order wouldn't be a bad idea. although i thought that with jennings and he turned out ok. clark & richardson i'd happily start next season with them on teh outside and if they can get back in great but if not i'd sooner see the scott steel, liam trevaskis, ryan [?] davies of this team given an extended shout.

one thing i'm not sure about - baz mccarthy we know the case with, poynter? although just googling he was actually born in london so no idea if his case is different. also didn't realise hes 27 now, thats surprisning

Thanks for the round-up FP, it’s clearly not been a great season, but the club atleast appear to be heading in the right direction on and off the field going into 2019.

If you believe what was said to be true, of course.

Have to let McCarthy go in fairness, I’m sure the club would rather have kept him and I also feel he’d rather have stayed - but he’s not good enough to warrant an overseas spot unfortunately.

Regarding Poynter - he’s been immense! Highest average at the club this year I believe after Latham.

yep, he'll be off back to ireland to play there was meantioned at the members forum

There’s only one person who seems to ‘have a go at you’ as you put it. And you have a pop back just as much, often starting the bickering.

You bring an awful lot on yourself with your not very witty comments on various threads, again often when nobody has mentioned anything. It appears to be done to provoke a reaction, and then when you get one you play a ‘woe be me’ card and accuse everyone of queueing up to have a go at you.

Nobody is having a go at you, I’m guessing people are just getting sick of the rather pathetic squabbling and bickering which clog up more and more threads.

I took you off ignore as you do actually make some decent points now and again, as well as being sick of seeing people arguing with themselves. The place is better for varying opinions, whether we agree with those opinions or not.

For the good of everyone how about people try a truce and stop the boring bitching between one another??

It hardly seems fair on McCarthy. Ireland only just got Test status by the skin of his teeth. There's not must 1st class cricket in Ireland (4 clubs or something like that). If he wants to make a living out of cricket it might be better if he sticks with Durham - or maybe according to the rules there's no choice.

I'm surprised about the Colly situation. If he is here next year will he be guaranteed a place? Certainly not on this year's performances.

I'm still worried about the batting. The prospective middle order seems like a big gaping hole. otoh, Trevaskis, S Steel etc may surprise us - it's happened before.

I'm also surprised about The Ch Exec saying about not having to pay back any of the loan. I hope he's very sure about that! Also that the loan is interest free is something I hadn't known - maybe that's where all this spare cash that's suddenly seemed to appear comes from. But, invest in the young'uns.

Disagree with Poynter mind. He’s scored 400 runs this season, 170 of those coming in one innings.

I usually hate this whole ‘take away that score’ bollocks.....but do that with Poynter this year and he is averaging 17.

Shame about McCarthy. But like you say, not good enough to keep as an overseas. Good luck to the lad. Thought he was slightly harshly handled earlier in the season, especially in the T20s

All I'm saying is some get an easy ride it's fine we move on

i imagine he'd have to renounce playing for ireland, or perhaps that wouldn't even make a difference no idea. i agree it seems unfair

Across all formats he’s been fairly consistent. He’s also a very capable gloveman, when I’ve seen him.

They call it an average for a reason, in a season where batting has been pretty horrific, he seems atleast to have shone brighter than others.

Worked for all the Saffers.

Abbott, Wiese, Roussouw, van Zyl, etc.

I think Clark and Smith are vulnerable for next season and the end of this one, but as I've said time and time again i would still like to see some changes this season no matter what happens now in this game.

Yes, Rimmington just doesn't do it for me, hopefully he improves next season but I think we have better at the club for red ball cricket. He's been good in the T20.

Smith has been excellent in the 1 day stuff and T20, red ball stuff not so good more of a let down if anything but certainly fine in the limited over stuff, very much underused in the 1 day cup bowling.

McCarthy is leaving. Poynter I'm still not sure about. Is he better than Richardson with bat and gloves? I'm not so sure............... we then have Davies who we signed and haven't really seen.

Dodgy rumour alert today which i laughed at but will share............. Mark Stoneman is homesick/family want to return home...........

Anyway fingers crossed we can build on the lead tomorrow.

Strange wicket that today mind, it will be interesting to see how it plays for the first 90 minutes tomorrow

Poynter has also been the most consistent across the three competitions. Average is 44 in the T20 - now that's not bad.

The thing about Rimmington (this season at least) is that he's been a workhorse, he's always been available when others have picked up injuries. As a wicket taker I'd rate McCarthy higher. But there you are.

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for good weather up in Chester-le-Street these next few days as the lead of 200+ you have at the moment should be enough to beat Sussex.

As it stands at Lord's, Kent should beat Middlesex and be one step further to promotion:cool:

That's some turnaround for the Durham lads after being bowled out for 103 on Day 1.

On this years evidence regarding Poynter v Richardson - it isn’t even close.

On Stoneman, I wouldn’t be surprised in fairness, but I’d think he’d be more likely to end up elsewhere in the North (such as Yorkshire). As mad as it may sound, I’m not sure we can fit him in.

Absolutely this. Got to remember too that he won’t have encountered too many English pitches and the Dukes ball before coming here. I fully expect in his second season he’ll be much improved.

Supposed to be dry the next two days.

We have to avoid an early collapse tomorrow - I expect it to be tricky though, 10:30 start and new ball due in 10 overs - there’ll be a bit of something in it for Sussex in the morning I’d suggest.

If we can overcome the first session and press on beyond a 300 lead then I think we should see it through.

As you say these early starts in September always help the bowlers - you only have to go back to the heyday of 70s/80s Gillette/Nat West one-day finals and the team bowling first always had an edge.

The Kent result should take care of itself, barring an absolute batting collapse and with Durham getting a result, with a 20pt lead, we should be promoted.

We've been close these past few seasons and after finally getting out finances sorted out (staging concerts at the St Lawrence and losing hundreds of thousands of pounds in doing so) and having a team made mainly of young, local players and one great overseas acquisition, promotion seems finally to have been achieved.

Matt Henry and his 60+ wickets have been a godsend.
