Mickey quinn on talkshite this morning was on about west ham....the question was asked should they have kept moyes (rather than getting pelligrini).
He said that that pelligrini was seen as world class manager, and has a "sexier" c.v. as he has won the premier league, and sometimes that is all the fans see.
Oh, the irony!!
didn't he win the league with real Madrid too ?

And didn't Rafa not?

I don't think there is any argument for us keeping McClaren tbf. Bloke was a shambles and we would have been relegated earlier under him.
Im not suggesting you should have kept tufty.
What i meant is, what Quinn was saying about pelligrini....the fans see it as a "sexier" c.v., and was having a bit of a pop at them for it. But that is EXACTLY the same shite he spouts about rafa.....
Hence the irony!!

I was reading it as you were drawing parallels and the only parallel to draw is that for Moyes being ousted for Pellegrini read McClaren being ousted for Benitez.

I do get your point on that it is slightly ironic that he covets a foreign manager's CV at Newcastle where he is criticising West Ham's actions for doing the same but it's not also completely identical in his defence as West Ham finished mid-table last season iirc.

More amusing is that they still adore him

He is good at closing up shop, but they love him as he could in their heads win them the Euro Cup or at least get them back to the Champs League. As we can see with Mourinho - regressive defensive football is on the back foot vs attacking counter attack/possession football. Most managers are good for 10/15 years then they recede and Benitez is blatantly one of them.

I'd like to know how many fans in the Championship NUFC would have had if they had kept McLaren for that season. Spirits would have been down negativity through the roof. They got 52k that season as they had hope. The total opposite to us when we went down. Ive lost the plot here but never mind

FAO mag lurkers

The thing is... by the time we come back up you'll still have won nowt. Not played in the Champions League or Europa league and either have been relegated or still fighting relegation.

Yes we're in league one. But ask yourselves who the happier set of fans will have been until we meet each other in the league again... it wont be yous

Probably SEB but I'm at work and can't be arsed to read the whole thread - but Ian Dennis on FiveLive was criticising Benitez saying if Pardiola or Schteve had presided over the 10% possession at home v Chelsea or the 'insipid' display at Forest, the scum...sorry fans, would have been all over him like gravy on a shirt front. When someone suggested the old "net spend" as an excuse Dennis wasn't having it saying you can't keep moaning ad infinitum as a manager. He got them to 10th last yearand has spent even more money this summer on not very much in terms of quality - Dennis' point being there's nothing wrong in criticising the chubby busboy or pointing out the likes of Burnley have done a lot better for a lot less money.
