What do the mags on here make of benitez signings the last 2 seasons ?

Bearing in mind what he has had to spend I reckon a pretty good job. ( as evidenced by our performance last term)

Muto - too early to say
Ki - too early to say
Schar / Fernandez- ditto above
Kenedy / Rondon - both loans but looking good.
Dubravka - class
Le Jeune - class when fit
Merino - Good player but perhaps not for PL - and we broke even on him
Murphy - I like him / think he will be good in future.
Atsu - Good player but looks like he will be bit part / reserve
Diame - Class - immense last term
Haydon - remain to be convinced he's got it but I could be wrong
Joselu- for £3m he's actually scored a few important goals - a back up player now.
Manquillo - back up defender who cost buttons- will probably be moved on next term.
Clark - Good grafter who you can rely on.

In fact the only signings which look questionable are Manquillo and Joselu - but at £8m for the pair we cannot quibble too much - both reserve team fodder now In the main

If they're all average good and promising why are you in the bottom three?

I think Rafa is doing a class job...Keep it up me owld pal...
Totally agree. He’s slowly getting rid of any decent players they had and replacing them with poor quality replacements (bar the keeper, he’s not bad). By spending just less than the money he’s receiving, he can also play the ‘net spend’ card and therefore can claim it’s not his fault he has a poor squad as he’s not being backed.

He’ll probably walk in the summer and only when the next fella comes along and struggles with what he’s left, will the deluded masses realise what he’s done.

I hope he stays on to finish the job, but I’d also love to see the melt down if he walks. We can’t really lose, be a good laugh either way.

You've forgotten sels, Lazaar, Hanley and Gamez there.

Very poor overall. Bought some absolute crap and the big money on the likes of Murphy, Muto et al is not working at the moment and I wouldn't trust him with a huge wad of cash personally. Still, he has the backing of myself and the crowd for now, but the cracks are starting to show. We've played three out of our four games against teams nailed on to finish top six, so no panic yet.
Watford just turned one of those "nailed on top 6 teams" over and have won 4/4. when I checked on sky sports transfers they had a similar net spend this summer to you lot.

If It's all Ashleys fault then how come fat body hasn't picked up more points if he's the messiah you all make him out to be?

Spent less on incomings and lost their best player. Their biggest spend was on a player they had on loan last season so their squad is actually worse this year than it was last.

Mixed bag
Kenedy looked like an excellent player last season, but has been abject so far. Hopefully he's just carrying a knock or something.
Rondon looks like a decent hold up striker with clever use of the ball and decent movement. Can finish too.
Dubravka is a genuinely quality 'keeper and a steal at £4m
Lejeune and Lascelles looked very good towards the end of the season and he's a real miss right now.
Muto - Not seen enough of him yet, looks busy and technically very good though.
Schar looks decent, Fernandez too. Both will need time to settle in though.
Ki is a 6/10 player in most games, hasn't blown me away but we'll see.

Trouble is, every single one of those signings were so obviously not Benitez's first choice. Every signing he's made has to judged bearing in mind his budget. There are bargains to be had out there, but it's a much bigger gamble to shop in the bargain bin than just pay the going rate for proven quality.

You forgot Ritchie who has been a very good signing and Gayle, who was excellent in the Championship but not cut out for the PL.

Murphy, did a good job in the Championship, got our money back on him.
Hanley was a bit iffy bit we got most of our money back.

Out of all the players he bought, Sels, Lazaar and Gamez would be classed as poor.

Not a bad record all things considered.

How can anyone criticise Ashley?

He appointed a manager the supporters adore.

He invested in a relegated club, to come straight back up, and had Newcastle finish 10th as a newly promoted club.

Surely, after having had more time to coach the players, Benitez should be looking to finish higher this season.

Ashley has said he can't compete with the big clubs and wants out of Newcastle.

The Mags only response is that he should give Benitez more money and that he's lying about wanting out.

Unlike Perez, Joselu, etc ..... and that Mitrovic lad, whatever happened to him?

The lengths to which the Mags will go, to defend Benitez, is hilarious to watch.

The few signings who are doing well are 'proof of Rafa's world class credentials' ....
..... the many failures are 'back up players' or 'carrying knocks'
The fog on the Tyne is affecting their usually unimpeachable judgement regarding the FSW  and his coaching/performance/buys. He managed Real Madrid yer nar … And got the boot  … His tactics - 11 men behind the ball - would shame a non league side but to the besotted Toon Barmy he will ever be a World Class Manager denied a World Class team by that nasty Cockney Wanker despite the fact he did fuck all with a World Class team at Real and a very good team at Inter. Long may the FSW reign in his cartoon kingdom. The Emperors got some new clothes.

I've said it before but the Mags need reminding .....

They believe that, without Ashley, they'd be Man City.

They never consider that, without Ashley, they could be Blackburn.

No one wants to buy their club, perhaps they should ask themselves why.

The Man City supporters, when they went down to the lower leagues, didn't have death threats to the owner, questions asked in Parliament, funeral marches, candlelight vigils outside shops or produce endless ridiculous banners ..... in general they just supported their club and retained their dignity.

Perhaps that's one of the reasons a serious buyer was attracted to the club.
