We all know how tough it has been for him recently. but will enjoy the great memories and innings he played. Piers Morgan is not very educated about test cricket if he was bored by him, I enjoyed watching him wear attacks down as much as a Pietersen hundred.

I don't think you understand the significance of an average as a statistic. The bigger the sample size, the more accurate the figure is.

To have played 800% more games, means the average means a hell of a lot more. Which is what makes it a ludicrous comparison.
His career average is high because he has been a phenomenal player but what I was referring to is since 2014/15 his form hasn't been great but he has made 3 huge double centuries in that time and 50+ innings under 25. I remember Brendan McCullam saying he was the best batsman since Bradman, since then he hadn't really been the same.

The debate has been sidetracked somewhat, the important thing is Cook is getting the respect he deserves and he is probably retiring at the right time.

Ridiculous from Morgan and makes him look a tit who doesn’t have a clue about the game.

The KP thing frustrated me mind as he should’ve still been playing (not now but at the time) but that’s history now and Cook will be remembered far more for being a great player than the KP nonsense.

I would have stuck to saying nowt if I was him.

I bet Milly Dowler's parents can't forgive him for giving them false hope their daughter was still alive.

The fact one of Pietersen’s best mates is piers Morgan tells you everything you need to know about that odious man

Cook got more class in 1 finger than the both of them

Omit the West Indies - who haven't had a decent bowling attack for years - from Voges' stats and he only averages 41. Agree that 20 matches is too small a sample size to give a decent average though.

Voges conveniently retired as soon as he got found out by us.

Don't have access to Cricket Archive since they started charging but it would be good to see batsmen ranked by average with minimum 50 tests.

I’ve never claimed that KP is a particularly nice man but as I’ve said before I don’t care about personalities as I don’t have to have anything to do with them.

Play, entertain me then I’ve no interest in them after that.

Tweet from Morgan is ridiculous and shows no class at all.

Nah they are both utter scum

The way he treated Strauss, an equally good bloke was fuckin shameful and he should have been fired on the spot

Cook brought him back, only him, which is what makes the way they go on even worse

Disappointed with this tbh, I thought he had 3 or 4 more years left. I'd have just kept playing him until he passed Tendulkar's record, it's not like we've got any better openers around anyway, plus the Indian seethe would have been sight to behold. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he found some form at Essex and we saw him back in the England test team at some point. Seems like a top bloke and as for his career...the stats say it all.

Silly comment that particularly in case of KP.

It’s an old argument anyway and is history now.

Cook certainly doesn’t deserve a comment like that from Morgan though who is meant to be a cricket fan.

The statistics back that up, he's had his rough patches but so has every player.

Probably the right timing for him, terrible timing for England with our top order woes though.
Tbf he is contrbuting to them woes unfortunately. The worry is the person who replaces hin will aswell

Hes been a great player like. Absolute legend
