I can't understand the adulation wasted on so called stars of years ago . Aretha Franklin for instance , Her death aws the lead on BBC1. It went on for ELEVEN minutes . She had 1 uk no.1 30 f***ing years ago and she shared that with jawdy michael .
I'm with you on this mind. There have been many more significant artists in the UK who have died and not received anywhere near the same coverage and adulation. Not that it's a competition mind

Are they better than when they were young?
Watching Pink Floyd on ‘YouTube’
I think yes!
Generally yes ,better young
Floyd okay I suppose because they just look like Ceo's on their day off
It's the full gear pensioner rock stars ,Def Leppard guy is a right clip
Music wise non of them make their best work last

Imagine if there was a bloke in his 70s in your local still with daft hair and leather trousers looking like what Ozzy or Keith Richards do. He'd be a figure of fun.

My local is full of them. You can tell their age and musical taste from their dress code. Stuck in a time warp. But if that’s what floats their boat

Aye you're right, old blokes should just wear old bloke clothes and fit right in, lets not have any originality here eh.

I think it's class that music has had that much of an impact on them that they continue to keep the style alive. Would be boring as fuck if everyone got to a certain age and went beige.

More embarrassing are the young uns with Nirvana and Ramones t-shirts. I believe we had a fine thread about this recently.
Nirvana and Ramones wrote songs for youth ,I don't find it odd kids getting then 30 years later .My lad likes a bit Oasis and Green Day alongside his current stuff

Yeah I suppose I didn't make my point at all, it's the 90% of the kids wearing them that haven't heard a song by either band.

I still have my Dookie t-shirt from when I was 14 - still nar all the words to the album

No.
Lose their edge. Start to look ridiculous. Compare the Stones now to the Stones in 1970.

Same as these sad old punks in their 50s still dressing like they're 17
there's this old rocker always prowling around the bridges who wears some mad single silver gauntlet type glove, looks like an absolute lunatic

Know what you mean on the clothes dilemma
I'm mid 50s and should be Greenwoods M&S shopping for gear
Sod that but likewise I left my punk gear behind long ago

Floyd is my favourite band.

Their early work was groundbreaking (and some was shite tbf) but the sound at that time was a product of the trends of that time.

They have successfully reworked songs through the decades to be relevant for the current era.

That and they are proper musicians. I can thoroughly recommend you watch Echoes live at Pompeii, especially for the interview scenes.

Amen

Do they play different songs like ;)
Don't mind a bit of them if I ignore the tights and shoulder pads

They're one of those bands that just ooze class and professionalism when you see them live.

I saw them Earl's Court about 10-12 years ago and at one point some lads near the front were getting overly rowdy so Bruce stopped the other lads playing the song they'd been playing while he brought all the attention to the rowdy ones and got them to calm the fuck down.

Sounds like nothing from the way I described it but I was very impressed with the way he handled it. I'd never seen a frontman handle a situation like that anywhere near as well.

Elsewhere in the show there was a technical problem - one of the PA amps blew up or something, meaning they had to stop while it was fixed. The lads from the band got some footballs out and starting arsing about on stage with them, keeping the crowd happy while Bruce led them in a "Happy Birthday" to Dave singalong iirc.

Considering the stoppages you might think it was a shit gig but it absolutely wasn't. I left thinking it was it was one of the best gigs I'd ever been to.
