Some of our fans are tits like. I dislike Ashley, but at least he's a realist. The top 6 is a closed shop, Everton usually get 7th and Leicester will be around there as well. So best we could hope for really is 9th, one place higher than last season. Realistically we would need to be spending (NET of course) between 80-100M just to compete for 7th. The difference in prize money between 10th-7th is about 6M. Ashley's done his sums and Benitez should know that as well. If he wants more ambition from his Chairman he should know by now to fuck off somewhere else.

That said, there is no excuse for putting out a weak team tonight.

The cups are great opportunity for Premier League clubs outside of the top six to win something. I can never understand why managers field weakened teams.

How good a manager someone believes Rafa to be is of course subjective. However, i just don't understand the completely uncritical coverage of the game on Sunday from the Chronicle.

You are spot on re the investment - the numbers just don't add up!

A mag in the pub on Monday was arguing to another about Rafa and was saying similar points. Why aren't the fans turning on him like they have done other managers, it's ridiculous to expect investment when Ashley is trying to sell the club, he should walk if he knows he can't do the job that he's hired to do without investment etc. etc.

Other one wasn't having any of it like, just kept saying he's world class and is the best thing to happen to the club since SBR:lol::lol:

Sadly, a few heads are definitely turning:rolleyes:;)

Edit: I genuinely thought he was taking the piss at first with his mate, never seen one like that.
