Wey its true with Root, he is captaining all day, and coming in after a few overs
He should never ever be batting at 3
Maybe while he is captain can certainly see that point to a degree, however no other viable option at 3 makes it difficult.
However what I am mainly getting across is the primary reason imo Root has scored runs in his careeer is the form and quality he has, not where he has batted in the order.
I just really get annoyed with this old lined spouted by pundits who played 30 years ago that "your best player plays at 3"
No they don't, they literally don't, in the modern game they bat at 4. The only one who does is Williamson
My personal feeling is I am not that bothered where top players bat in the order.
Because top players get runs for that very reason they top players not because of their postition in the order.
And honestly think especially in the middle order the actual postition means not that much.
It depends on the make up of the team, don’t think a rookie batsman should be thrown in at the deep end at 3 as England have done in the past just to accommodate your best player at 4.
It’s a different story and fair enough if you have a established number 3.
It short your best batsman should bat why it suits the team not why it suits him
Cook
Hales
Buttler
Root
Morgan
Pope
Stokes
Ali
Woakes
Broad
Anderson
He's not a Goat man!!Isn't Cook potentially unavailable as well? Think he has a kid due around the start of the Test.
He has a farm...He's not a Goat man!!
I don't agree with regards to number 3
at number 4 you should be coming in against a softer ball, with the shine taken off. just because the current top order are failing means we move our best play to a position he is not at all comfortable in, and can often be found batting in the 2nd or 3rd over
Get him back down the order and fine some top order players who can blunt it out
Ey Eye Ey Eye- OHe has a farm...
My choice:
Mitchell
Cook
Bairstow
Root
Stokes
Ali
Buttler+
Woakes
Curran
Broad
Anderson
What I think we'll get:
Cook
Jennings
Vince
Root
Bairstow
Stokes
Buttler+
Woakes
Rashid
Broad
Anderson
I think Pope will be dropped as he's been poor.
Far too ODI
you don't need 6 bowlers
choose between woakes and curran
you can't pick curran for his batting like, just because he has had afew knocks with the tail
Found me 20 fast bowlers better than Broad yet?You are f***ing priceless like.
Curran and Woakes are number sixes, averaging 42 and 74.5 respectively with the bat for the series, but let's play Pope, a number six who hasn't made runs because we can't have six bowlers.
In case you hadn't noticed, we've got a shortage of good, specialist batsmen and a load of decent all rounders.

Tony Lock bowled slow left arm!Apologies, only 17:
James Anderson
Fred Trueman
Bob Willis
Jon Snow
Frank Tyson
Harold Larwood
Alec Bedser
Sydney Barnes
Ian Botham
Brian Statham
Simon Jones
John Lever
Tony Lock
Bill Voce
Ken Higgs
Dean Headley
Vallance Jupp
I thought it would be pushing it to make a case for Gough, Caddick or Hoggard but there must be at least three boys from the early years.
Broad has been picked consistently for over ten years and consequently has 427 wickets. That does not make him "one of the best of all time". He actually has very similar average and strike rate to Dominic Cork.
