About 6 months ago? I binge-watched them all in order. It is entirely possible I was drunk when I got to the Dalton ones, so I'll watch them again today and get back to you.



Well, I just finished watching the Dalton ones back to back. I really enjoyed them both.

How much of that is nostalgia value, I couldn't say.

SOME of the films have been.

They started out as gritty escapist adventures. Check Connery out when he shoots professor Dent in Dr. No. He says “that’s a Smith and Wesson - and you’ve had your six” then puts several slugs in him, unscrews the silencer and blows on it without emotion. The thin end of the wedge was the insertion in the film scripts of acidic one liners to lighten the tone so as not to portray Bond as a cold bastard assassin (exactly what he was in the books). This IMO lame attempt at inserting comedy reached its absolute nadir with the Moore tenure and they’ve been steadily climbing out from that ever since till we are back where we started with Craig being a cold assassin and little to no attempts at comedy. (It got right on my tits when people who were so steeped in the seemingly endless Moore tenure criticised Dalton for being “too serious”. Aye cos swinging through the jungle wearing a safari suit doing a Tarzan yell in Octopussy, or creating a makeshift snowboard from a jet ski to the tune of the Beach Boys’ ‘California Girls’ is exactly what we want and need from a spy film).
