Hales and Stokes

No, because a fit and healthy adult (which clearly he is as a professional sportsman) can quite easily get over the effects of drink in two days.

The game was 24/9 - the next game was 27/9. In my view, that’s more than enough time to recover.
Alcohol hinders recovery and performance in the short and long term

See Rooney vs Ronaldo.

It’s not a couple of glasses of wine, it’s 13 drinks

Seeing how he won’t be playing for England this weekend, he should be made available for us at Glamorgan.

How would I see Rooney v Ronaldo? What occurrence was this?

I know quite a bit about cardio-vascular and musculoskeletal recovery actually, someone at peak fitness will very easily recover sufficiently in three days to be able to perform. It’s not like he’s a f***ing alcoholic is it.......

He's playing sport at the highest level, the smallest margins can make a massive difference.

Having a glass of wine with a meal three days before a game is fine, being out until the early hours of the morning pissed off his trolley is nowhere near being acceptable.

Forgetting the verdict for a second, do those that blame the ECB for everything (rightly most of the time), think they should discipline him for drinking at least 12/13 drinks a couple of days before a game?
At the beginning of the trial it was revealed that the England "Team" were out for the night celebrating a victory. Surely they must of had permission from the ECB to do that.
Was there a limit on what they were allowed to drink? Watching the video of Stokes being arrested by the Police has doesn't seem drunk.

Are you suggesting that 13 drinks has no impact on recovery?

See above. 13 drinks is more than most, non sporting, people drink in a week

Probably the adrenaline from having a fight...

Sigh

It’s 13 drinks ffs not a couple of glasses of wine

Think what Wenger did in terms of diet.

But I can’t be arsed to argue the point, because it’s ridiculous. Alcohol harms the body in that sort of amount

As I say, you keep repeating ‘ITS 13 DRINKS’ but I’d like to know how you’ve come to that conclusion.

As a counter to that, can you tell me why long distance runners are encouraged to drink beer?

Sounds like it might have been a bit more certainly around that.

If that’s the conclusion you’ve drawn, read it again.

Can you provide proof he had 13 drinks by the way? You keep repeating the number, but I’d like to see your working out.

The England cricketer Ben Stokes has told a jury he had drunk at least seven vodka and mixer drinks and “two or three pints” of beer during a night that ended in a street brawl.

Add to that..

"I recall I potentially had some Jagerbombs in Mbargo."

Edit -

Stokes said he had been drinking before the incident in September last year but was not drunk. He had consumed “some” beer at Bristol county ground after England beat the West Indies.

After driving back to the team hotel, a group of three or four players and some of their partners, including Stokes and his then fiancee, now wife, Clare Ratcliffe, had dinner where a further “two or three” pints were consumed by Stokes.

so there's 7 (at least) + 2 (or 3) + some (at least 2) = 11

And some on here say that the other lad has "selective memory" and that the bouncer is a "liar".

edit - "Some" beer after the match too.

Or you could say it sounds like it might have been fewer.

I wouldn’t use The S*n to wipe my arse though.

11 isn’t 13 is it? Nor is 9, which Stokes claimed according to that article.

Me neither but its reported in all the press. Also Stokes was vague on how much he had and the Jaegers suddenly came out when he was pressed on it.

11 was the conservative estimate. Add in the "some" beer and you'd still be at 12 as the lower count of drinks.

He had selective memory about the Jagerbombs....

Are you really saying that? haway man

He hadn’t added the jaegerbombs, that came out under questioning

Apparently weightlifters are encouraged to drink jaegerbombs

Still can’t explain why you keep ranting on about 13 drinks though eh?

Should change your username to chunkylover13

You started preaching about alcohols effects on the body. I merely countered saying that I actually know quite a bit about it, both in terms of the effects on metabolism, cardio-vascular system and also the muscles. What’s more, as a snippet I wondered at all if you could explain why beer is good for long distance runners - I take from your scoffing that you know absolutely fuckall about it. Bet you can’t tell me without googling.

Because he had 12/13 drinks based on what came out in court. His initial statement had ~9/10 and then when questioned in court he said he had a “May have had a few” jaegerbombs.

I don’t know the exact number. He doesn’t know the exact number ffs

Right, so now you’ve admitted you don’t actually know - repeating the number 13 with absolute certainty just makes you look like an absolute f***ing crank. As does that Johnson’esque laughing smiley after every reply ;).

I’m not going to google it. I know of runners drinking beer, I couldn’t pretend to know the science

But if you’re really telling me that 10 drinks plus on a night is good for a sportsman, you’re talking bollocks.

Alcohol can be positive in doses, although views change over time, but that’s not a small dose

I said 11/12/13 earlier in the thread. At the time it came out. It’s a fairly reasonable number given he lied about his consumption
