Hales and Stokes

No idea. The bias on here is astounding.

We don’t know which way it will go as none of us have sat through it, obviously all of us hope he gets off for cricketing reasons.

But he only has himself to blame for being in the dock. The justice system hasn’t fucked him over at all
I'm not fussed if he gets off or not, send him down if needs be. If he was an average Joe nobody would bat an eyelid at him potentially getting custodial.

I just can't understand how he has so much backing.

Seriously, why are you arguing this? It was accepted in court that Hale and Ali both had bottles. Why are you now saying they didn’t?

  • There’s two blokes with bottles.
  • One of them hits someone with his bottle.
  • It’s absolutely reasonable to assume the other may use his as a weapon.
It’s therefore completely acceptable to take the necessary actions of self defence.

Or atleast in this case, it cannot be proven whatsoever that it is NOT self defence.

Anyway, whatever happens - Stokes has NOT had a fair trial.
Totally agree.

Having read the summary of the Judges summing up I felt he selected negative issues surrounding Stokes and positive ones surrounding Ali ie focusing on Ali contacting Bristol Council for the CCTV and Stokes calling the bouncer a c**t. Judges comments carry a lot of weight.

There’s no f***ing way he should go to jail for that like

I didn't say Hale didn't have a bottle. He had a bottle in the same way thousands of drinkers every week in every city have a bottle. He didn't do anything with it, didn't threaten anyone with it and wasn't even in possession of a bottle when he got sparked for trying to defend his mate. I had a bottle in my hand sitting outside the Bay Horse last weekend and I am sure you have recently. I didn't do anything with it and neither did hale but he got sparked clean out for the privilege. In the summing up by Stokes own defence they didn't even make the slightest reference to Hale having a bottle why do you think that is?

What?

He tried to attack someone with a bottle

Are you blind????

He'd be stuck picking any positives for stokes from what I've read.

It’s in quotation marks. Highlighting it’s a quote.

They’re repeating that someone said he lied. That’s how quotation marks work

I'm fully aware of that, however some people won't be, some people also will just see the headline and take it as gospel. Its the type of sensationalist bullshit headline you'd expect from The S*n or The Mail - not the BBC, but there you go.

Jury sent home, so a full day listening to summing up and then sent home to forget everything they've been told

Especially when The Jury are told to listen carefully to what The Judge says. Judge has him guilty and he's just trying to lead the jury to find the same outcome. That's his job.

Very sad too that a bloke who hit someone on the head with a bottle, completely unprovoked, is somehow getting such a good reference off the judge.

That annoys me. We have different views on Stokes but I don't think he's more guilty than Ali. To me Ali was the perpetrator, Stokes initially acted in self defense but carried it on to such an extent that it became beyond that. If Stokes is found guilty it would be fair enough in my eyes but if he's found guilty and Ali gets off it would be wrong.

Forgetting the verdict for a second, do those that blame the ECB for everything (rightly most of the time), think they should discipline him for drinking at least 12/13 drinks a couple of days before a game?
