Polis Costs

The costs to the club has to be part of this bit

"Under current rules, clubs are only obliged to pay for policing in the stadium and on their land, leading to the taxpayer picking up most of the bill."

So if the taxpayer and not the club pay for police when the police aren't on land owned by the club, surely our increased costs are due to the club actually owning a lot of our own land around the stadium, where as Newcastle basically don't own their stadium and are in the middle of a city centre

That would also explain why London clubs where most of the police are away from the grounda in local streets paid nothing as well
Seems a lot of people are foaming at the mouth and ignoring this.

Football clubs only pay for police when the police ARE NOT ON PUBLIC LAND

This is why the Met Police only got £300,000 in an entire YEAR from London clubs, as the London clubs basically have zero public land around their stadiums.

Policing football games costs Met £6.7m Police spent 6.7 million and got 361,000 back.

If you want to blame anyone, blame the Government for not allowing police forces to recover proper amounts from clubs. Or blame Sunderland for having lots of private land and Newcastle having a couple of pavements and a car park

There is a call for all policing activities to be charged to the clubs. The police forces are also allowed to make profit as set out under Section 25 of the Police Act 1996

Some useful info if you have 3 days to read it https://www.dorset.police.uk/media/...rging-for-police-services_v8_1_april_2016.pdf

The Celtic game will go down in history as the worst preseason game ever.

Horrible game; horrible away fans; horrible organisation; and now we find out it cost the club £30k to police
They were trying for boro at home.......would have been as bad without the numbers.

It doesn't affect me in the slightest but it is a bit odd how it cost us double what it cost them and their crowds aren't far off double ours.
This must be looked into surely. A massive difference between the two bills so the Police definitely owe the club an explanation given that it is public money

It's okay, I won't take it personally

One of the problems on this forum when you have more than a page or two is lots of people read the OP and then immediately comment. Missing the fact 50 other posts have already said what they want to say and 10 others have answered them.

Someone should Tweet Donald.
Its like running to the teacher every 5 mins.
Grow up
Grow up? For wanting to possibly save the club some money and question why costs are so high? I'm sure those in charge are already aware that so many have took the piss out of the club for years in terms of bleeding the club financially. Hopefully it can get sorted

Why do you think that the club has had the pi55 taken out of it for policing costs? All of the surrounding land at SoL is private land, so the police charge accordingly. At Newcastle the only private land is within the confines of the stadium hence they dont charge as much as the surrounding streets are policed from within their existing budget and not chargeable to the club.

I have very little sympathy for professional football clubs when it comes to policing costs. When clubs are giving very average footballers 50k a week, moaning about a policing bill which is minuscule in comparison is a bit rich.

You can't get within 200m of a turnstile without being on private land at Sunderland and so the police 20m away from the ground are charged to SAFC. At SJP virtually all of the are outside the ground is not private and therefore the police pick up the tab. Maybe we should put a fence around the car park and have the police stood outside unless needed!

So Sunderland were charged double Newcastle.
Just another example of the piss take party.

They charge for officers on the club's land. Basically, the Mags don't have any - the SoL site is probably 3 times the size of the Wongadome's, and we get charged the minute a copper sets foot on it. Most of the streets around St James are public land, and the bill gets picked up by the taxpayer.

We get charged the minute they start duty. So that will be probably be 3 hours prior to kick off and an hour after. I think document i linked earlier quoted something like 6 hours as standard
