Worst strawberries for me. They didn't flower much and have hardly produced any fruit. Strawberries, rasps and potatoes are usually the crops I can depend on. I wonder if I should have thinned them out or dug up the old plants, or just they suffered from it being pretty mild to very cold, very wet (clay soil) then very hot and dry. My raspberries have been poor too, but quite a few plants did not survive the winter. Those bits that did fruit, along with my blackcurrants have been attacked by birds. Having new netting still in a bag in the shed did nothing to keep them off!

How often do people move strawberries? I have heard some say move them every 3 years. Mine have been in the current place for a few years. I'm thinking of training runners over the path to the neighbouring bed to populate that for next year and dig the current lot out.

Same for me. Got tons of strawbs last year, poor this year but plant have been in a few years and also have clay soil. Rasps dont normally fruit until late summer for me so still waiting on them. Going to dig up at end of summer, get a nice raised bed with some better soil in for next year.

Picked a few pea pods tonight then gave the shells to the dog. He seemed to enjoy them. 10 minutes later he went trotting past with an entire pea plant in his mouth. Obviously enjoyed them enough to harvest his own.

Bit of a mixed bag this year.

More strawberries than I know what to do with. Tomatoes starting to set really well (had a few off) with a monster Beefsteak bigger than my fist and still growing. Cabbages doing well (wish I'd planted more). Beetroot is the best I've done. Loads of blackcurrants and redcurrants. Peas and runner beans going canny. Carrots are doing well for the first time ever.

However, my onions are an over-winter variety and they've been crap. Only half a dozen decent sized ones. The garlic isn't looking good either. Peppers and chillies struggling (one plant laden with young fruit but the rest have nowt). My turnips are all leaf with no sign of a root. Sprouts are sill only about 6 inches high and my cucumbers are feeble. The wind a few weeks ago has knacked my spuds so think I'm going to have to lift them this weekend. No joy with lettuce, pak choi etc either.

Hey ho, gardening still beats sitting in the house.

Pak choi has been awful for me this year as has lettuce

My youngest loves fresh peas, he just sat and ate a pile of them round the allotment this morning

I have just started this year and have only grown potatoes, carrots, salad greens and French beans.
The potatoes have done great and are lovely to eat, the salad leaves and carrots are thriving but the French beans have done nothing!

My French beans are doing brilliantly. We are harvesting them daily when they are very young. I'm giving them away at work as I have too many. I'm off on holiday next week and will have to give a canny few tomatoes away this week. For a slow/late start to the year, it hasn't been too bad up to now. Going to try a leek trench next year

Peas doing ok, huge amount of apples on the tree this year, but my lettuces are woeful for some reason. Carrots are coming on nicely, as are the squash and outdoor tomatoes.

Get a shit load of manure rotting down now for your leeks.

Everything coming along great guns @ my allotment.

We had 1st early potatoes, carrots, dwarf kale, white turnip and swede with our chicken for Sunday's dinner just gone.
For this weekend, the peas are just about ready to pick as they have shot up, and the pods are swelling.

The runner beans are flowering and getting pollenated, and the small beans are there on the trusses now. French beans are doing well, along with the broad beans.

Summer cabbages (greyhound) are ready now. The purple sprouting broccoli are tall and strong. I shall be putting out some winter cabbages (Ormskirk) this week, and sowing some more (winter king) along with winter kale (nero ).

The sweetcorn are taking off, as the hot sunny weather has boosted them.

Beetroot, onions, leeks, shallots, parsnips, marrows, courgettes, tomatoes, chilis, cucumbers, aubergines, along with the 2nd early spuds and main crop spuds all doing great.

I held back with the lettuce & radish so far, as I have been making a tripod stand for them so they can grow in pots/containers, and need to get it in position. Maybe this week.
I have a pumpkin to transplant into a big container - might do it today.

The only problem I have now is with my Asparagus. It has been non-existent for 4 years since planting the crowns., and there has been signs of Mr Mole around where they are.
I think I shall have to dig the plot over and re-plant something long term. Maybe some raspberries - but there's 2 types - summer & autumn fruiting. I shall have a think about it.
