It was part of the conditions of joining the league. The NEPL will support clubs through sticky patches but don' want clubs to try. It's ironic that a team can pay 5/6 players to play on a Saturday but struggle to keep older juniors in the game.

Developing junior sides is a massive resource both time and money and for me the NEPL are making it mandtory so clubs do the right thing for the long term before they spend 10k on an overseas player for example

This isn't a dig at Burnmoor by the way as I know how hard they are working with the juniors and have a canny little set up. A lot of clubs in the same boat at the moment but the answer isn't to allow clubs not to invest in juniors in my opinion

The whole we must have coaches and juniors is a farce propogated by the County and the ECB.

Didnt have all this rubbish in the Durham senior league and only about 2 teams folded in 100 years.

Bollocks...in the last 20 years of the DSL juniors were mandatory as well so don't give me that rubbish.

Surely promoting clubs to invest in junior cricket must be a good thing?? Make it optional then some clubs won't bother and make the problem even worse in years to come

That's nothing to do with the league at the time and everything to do with the interest in cricket at the time.

There is soo much other attractions for kids nowadays, that it is always going to be difficult for the amount of local clubs to attract enough youngsters, telling them they have to have junior sides is just putting to much pressure on already struggling clubs.

However all the rubbish nowadays is beyond belief, telling clubs what they have to do,iis totally counterproductive and actually putting barriers in place when clubs actually need support and flexibility.

I mean you have local village cricket clubs with people associated with them been called director of cricket or director of coaching it's quite laughable tbh.

Clubs want to promote juniors anyway if they possibly can, not sure what they expected to do drag them off the streets just soo they allowed in some eliest league who are out of touch with the reality of what young people want to do nowadays.

Times have changed and the leagues need to realise that.

I can teach the kids I captain everything they need to know about playing cricket and its history, why its the greatest sport to be a part of etc etc but haven't done any qualification. Don't tell the ECB though as they might stop me!
