I would have thought on Father's Day a dad might want to spend the day with his child or children, you know the people who he is a father too!!!
Jesus wept man just do it the next Sunday or the Sunday before. Why does it have to be on that actual day?
I Bet there’ll have been plenty times in past cricket has fell on Father’s Day and there’ll have been no song and dance. Blokes are becoming more and more like women these days.
We are only talking one Sunday here mind not every weekend. If it every Saturday and Sunday then I’d agree but I fail to see what can be so pressing that it stops you playing on that one day. I’ve got 3 kids by the way 6,3 and 1 so not as if I’m speaking from a point of ignorance.

I used to play football every Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning then go out on the drink, played cricket in the summer then straight out on drink afterwards, don’t think that made me more of a man, in fact looking back on it when you get older I was probably immature and inconsiderate.

Cricketers are already out all day every Saturday in the summer, that asking them to play on sundays and bank holidays should not happen imo.

Like I say it’s a question of balance

It isn’t a case of being more of a man it’s a case of doing what you want to do as oppose to what your missus dictates. I work all week bring home a decent living, don’t squander money and my last would go on my family but f***ing hell if I can’t have one or two weekends a summer which is all it is to myself then it’s a very sad state of affairs.
There’s 52 weekends in a year but it’s too much to sacrifice two of them! Haway man!
The worse thing is I don’t believe for one second it’s about spending time with the kids I think that’s just an excuse as the wife has put her foot down.

I think you missing my whole point mate, it's not about what your Mrs wants ,but everything about what you want.

I want the correct balance and that's enjoying my sport which I have done all my life (golf now) that I am too old and shit for anything else, but at the same time spending quality time with your family.

I would want to spend Father's Day with my children irrespective of what the Mrs says.

Think we all work hard during the week and hopefully most of us does make a decent living, and that's why I believe men should be able to enjoy they sport without been out all weekend.

I remember very vividly turning up on a bank holiday (everyone ) in the cricket season only to be pissed off at the wankers dropping out, it happened every season, looking back the games should simply not have been scheduled.

I packed in playing footy after thirty minutes of a game to spend more time with my family

It came to me after I had sprayed a lovely ball to the left wing. I signalled over I was coming off, to much confusion, walked over, got changed and drove away.

Never went back or missed it. I just felt that my childhood was over, with the drinking and dossing around with the lads and it was a time for new priorities.

That's me though

How is 2 weekends a year, 2 weekends out of 52 not striking a balance? When are these games meant to be played? It’s freezing in April as it is then it’s pitch black in September so starting any earlier or finishing later isn’t a viable option.
I honestly don’t get why spending fathers dat with the kids Is so important either. It’s just another day man. This is what I mean about blokes becoming women. Next it’ll be blokes saying they can’t play as it’s their wedding anniversary

I think post 109 sums up your first question nicely.

It's not just 2 weekends in the whole year is it, you make it sound like doing nothing the rest of them, when in fact he is out all day every Saturday during the summer,

The wedding anniversary should never happen because any proper bloke would not get married in the cricket season in the first place:D

I remember my dad telling me his brother and best man left his wedding early to play cricket back in the day and he was totally fine with it, however times have changed

Sometimes they is more important things in life than cricket.

It is two weekends, the rest of the time it’s one Saturday which if you’ve signed for a team you’re committed to anyway! It is literally two weekends.
I missed two seasons with a knackered shoulder and I haven’t a f***ing clue what I did with my weekends then it was that memorable .
I think times have changed for the worst unfortunately. My old man is 80 so I suppose I’ve had a bit of an old school upbringing but I wouldn’t change it for the world. That era is dying out and being replaced by a soft and weak society imo.
Can you imagine a world war now. Blokes can’t even manage a weekend at the cricket, they’d be panic stricken by the time they got to Catterick barracks!

I agree 100% with your first point, once you in a team you should be 100% committed, nothing more soul destroying than players dropping out in fact that was the main reason I packed in cricket as sick of drop outs and scratch teams out.

I am not saying people should drop out, I am saying games over the weekend should only be played on a Saturday

It’s not a question of been weak, it’s a question of been more mature considerate and fair.

I had old school upbringing as well but like to think I have matured and realised time as moved on we even have women commenters in cricket now you know:D

When are these games meant to be played?
I consider myself considerate and very fair. I work all week, don’t go out getting pissed up and spend a very fair amount of time with my family.
I don’t consider having 2 Sunday’s of an entire year set aside to play cricket to be either immature or inconsiderate. I don’t see how that could remotely be seen as such.

What if it rains on the two allocated game days?

Fair enough it certainly was meant as a dig at you and hope you never took it that way.

Enjoyed the crack as usual!!

Don’t be daft man even if it was a dig id have tickled it down to fine leg. I get far worse on pure football mate ;)
I played in a side where blokes would try and make sure that if finished early it wasn’t announced on social media incase the women saw. I’ll let you guess who broke his neck to make sure it was announced the second we got back in the dressing room!

Yes we know who ...

To turn the debate around a bit... wouldn't it be better if the two extra Sunday games were played on the May Bank Holidays instead?
The D&DL re-arranged the first game of the season (April 21) for the first Bank Holiday in May and we easily put out 2 XIs for that and the Saturday. Found it much better than a normal double weekend.
