He took over a team that was at it's lowest ebb - played 16, won 1 drew 2 and lost 10, averaging 0.5 points per game and losing 81% of their games. He was in charge for the remaining 20 of the season - won 3 drew 7 lost 10 averaging 0.8 points per game, losing 50%. I'd say that was a decent effort to turn them around. The following season he led them on a 10 game winning run and left them when they were second.
Hi, alloa fan here, Jack took over a part time Alloa side in the Scottish Championship around December time. The outgoing manager flooded the team with effectively Scottish L1/2 players. They were dead and buried in effect by the time he took control. He brought in a couple of players in January transfer window, sorted out the tactical side of things and it improved till the end of the season. We went from being easily beating to being hard to beat in games. We managed to beat Hibs and draw with Rangers home and away. Might not seem a big deal for Sunderland fans, but it was a big achievement for a part time side.

Started the next season great, reached the 1/4 of the Scottish league cup, beating 2 SPL sides on route. Lost 2-0 to Celtic in Glasgow. It was 0-0 till 85mins. Unfortunately just couldn't make extra time against full strength Celtic side.

Jack Ross will do well, he's a smart manager. He actually narrowed the park at Alloa to prevent the full time sides from getting the ball wide and stretching his part time side. It was narrowed to a crazy level. You should Google "Alloa narrow pitch" Mark Warburton was going nuts about it. He's a smart intelligent manager.

Aye...lets just get an inexperienced manager in the English game, from one of the shittest clubs, from one of the shittest leagues in Europe.

Christ we are better off appointing Lennon.

This 100% - just through the door and deciding to start where the last regime left off - sign shit.

Thanks for your time mate. Very interesting. I think most of us are excited by the prospect, the sensible ones anyway

Thanks for the info mate. He seems just what we need.

You woke and your first thought was......can I be the biggest Fookin Fanny on the SMB today
Eat a dick

Definitely, we need a manager we can grow with and/or vica versa that will not be out of his depth and sacked when we are back in the prem or championship, for example a Pearson or Keano. Needs to be a long term appointment, I can see this St Mirren individual sacked when we are in the relegation zone of the championship.

Take off your rose tinted glasses cretins.

I'm excited about the prospect of Ross as manager, done a good job with Alloa who were not even equivalent to Burton in this Championship, 500/600 fans competing with Rangers who were paying players like a done Kevin Kyle £6k a week in the lower leagues (probably Alloa's weekly budget for ALL player wages), 20,000 total attendance for their league games that season including 2 sellouts against Rangers.

I'm a lifelong Ayr fan(started at 2 and into my 50th season now) and been supporting the Black Cats for as long as I can remember, can only think it was down to Dick Malone leaving Ayr for Sunderland, Ayr were in the same league as St Mirren in 16/17, I wasn't even counting them in Ayr' quest for survival as they were 11 points behind at one point, they had taken 4 points from their 1st 8 games then lost their next 6 after Ross took over, he gutted the team in the transfer window, come April Fools Ayr go up there 4 points ahead and get absolutely trousered 6-2 and that flattered us big style, game was over before I'd finished my pie and bovril.

After watching that match I knew Ayr had zero chance of staying up even although we were still ahead with a handful of games left to play, also went on the forums up here and stated that Saints would win the Championship in 17/18 while still being bottom, they were immense, loads of kids, full of energy, playing for each other, nobody hiding,

All for it. Need youth, new ideas, a no nonsense approach, keenness to play youth and most of all someone who signing on for the long term project that SAFC is.
I couldn't give a name, but what I wanted was a manager who was young, determined, focused, disciplined and with a clear plan. He seems to have that. Many wanted Hurst etc to come in, I'd have been happy enough as he seemed to fit that criteria. Imagine what people might have have thought and said, say 18 months ago if Hurst was linked? Similar to what the negative comments are now about Ross. I'm not saying he'll be brilliant, likewise I'm not saying he'll be a failure. We needed to look down this route and someone determined to make a name for themselves, make the step up and confident in what they done. Position we are in there's always a risk with who came in, due to the huge task ahead. Would an older experienced manager have the desire and willingness to overhaul a club almost? Probably not.

Cretins, you certainly know how to make friends and influence people. Oh by the way, fuck off!

Cheers for that. I really like the sound of him.

In 5 years time you will look back at this as the best appointment ever. It's what your club needs, someone with a point to prove, hungry for success and someone who will take no crap.To the people that say he is not a 'name' doesn't that apply to any manager until they become known for their achievements. The only problem i can forsee is when he becomes a well respected and successful manager in England, will so called bigger clubs want to lure him away, but that is in the future, in the present, he is exactly what you need.Get your wad on promotion at the first attempt.
