Wisden cricketers of the year

Well, if you've got your own opinion of what proper cricket is, that's fair enough - what I can't fathom, is why you get so offended everytime I mention the phrase 'Proper Cricket'.

It's come up loads of times in the past, everytime I say the phrase you are up in arms dismissing my statement and asking why I think or feel the way I feel.

In my view, proper cricket is Test and First Class, and as you mentioned, white clothing and a red ball.

If you have a completely different view, fair play to you - you are wholly entitled to it.

If you want to research more though, create a thread on it - 'What do you believe Proper Cricket is' - and see what people come up with. Ultimately, its totally subjective. It's exactly like the phrase 'playing football the right way' - what is the right way?

Guess that’s fair enough you are entitled to your view.

The answer to your question is s find the term snobbery I really do and hate that in any form.

I find it disgraceful to the highly talented people playing other forms of the game for them to be labelled not playing ‘proper cricket’

I have nothing against people preferring the longer format to the shorter format that’s entirely their choice, but for them to label other formats not proper cricket I find old fashioned, disrespectful and childish.

So second XI, minor counties and your beloved local league including what you play, none of that is proper cricket then.

Here you go, @Bri provided the figures.

1.6 million listened to County Championship coverage.

24.1 million viewed the BBC live text pages.

.
Yes, that was over the entire 2017 season, as I thought. Not 1.6 million actual people. And it doesn't say how long they listened for either.

It's probably only you that has any concept of something not being proper cricket. Nobody else would even think it.

As I told @Voice of fair play its totally subjective and all about opinions. My description of what I perceive to be Proper Cricket is earlier in the thread - go and have a look if you're arsed.

I don't think they are arguing that the standard is good mind, what they arguing rightly or wrongly is that maybe they is people who would like to watch women's cricket and without any exposure no one ever will.

Me personally I don't watch women's cricket, can only fit soo many sports on our telly as it is with 2 kids and our lass, she already complains all I do is watch sport, women's cricket might tip her over the edge:D:D

However and I am deadly serious as I said earlier would rather watch a close women's one day game than watch that young opening batsman from Lancashire bat, because I would rather watch paint dry than him.
So basically we all agree that the standard of women’s cricket is that of a fairly ordinary club cricket level yet people want to give it more exposure?
Most would close the curtains if club cricket was being played in their back garden yet because the participants in this case have tits and a blurt (yes I’m being course again to emphasise point) people want to watch it and are happy that it’s merits are being judged on the same level as the male game (see wisden cricketers of the year).
Let’s be honest here the people advocating the pushing of the women’s game are the sort of people who sit in cereal cafes reading the guardian and seemingly in some bizarre competition with everyone to show how tolerant and forward thinking they are.
I remember Sepp Blatter got in bother when he mentioned women in football wearing skimpy gear and getting all nicely done up to attract more punters. The tut tutting from the lefties was audible however if it came off I bet the hypocritical fuckers would’ve been tuned in. That’s the reality of a lot women’s sport im afraid.

I just can’t understand why you and other people don’t just call it longer format test cricket 4 day cricket.

Surely you can see by using the word proper it is belittling the other formats.

Tbh mate I have no interest in women’s cricket and can see your point to a certain extent.

However inevitably in threads like theses the alpha male comes out and the comments by Blatter were beyond stupid and showed him for what he is!

I don’t see nothing wrong though with pushing the women’s game and can ensure you they are no cereal cafes in Horden or Easington and suspect the Guardian sales are low as well!!

The comments by Blatter were certainly ill advised but my point was as that a lot of the tut tutters would no doubt have had a little peek if it came to pass.
I have no issue with women playing cricket but don’t try and judge it on the same level as the men’s game as that’s a complete nonsense.
The cereal cafe remark wasn’t directed at you as there’d be no room in horden due to all the flat cap and whippet shops in operation ;)

You can’t have a person in authority making comments like that it just totally sends out the wrong message

It not about been lefty do goodies it’s about been fair and equal and his comments were embarrassing imo.

There is a middle ground here there is nothing wrong pushing women’s football or cricket.

Nobody and certainly not me is judging it on the same level.

Yeah you right about Horden mind and tbh I have no idea what a cereal cafe is!!

Well it’s rammed down our throats in the summer prior to the men’s games usually so obviously see bits and pieces and it’s pretty poor really. Might as well show some local club cricket as it’s about that standard. Doesn’t make it anymore entertaining just be cause they have tits and a fanny.

rammed down our throats?

i wonder how many minutes of my life i've seen women's cricket for, i bet it is in single digits.

absoluely livid that women get to be on telly

Bizarre post

this :lol::lol:

I can't see your problem with the editor of Wisden selecting 5 players who he considered have been outstanding in the context of the game they play in.

you sir are sensible

you do realise women exist and are people right? perhaps some of them like or want to play sport. perhaps they want role models? perhaps some people have daughters, nieces, cousins, friends and would love them to be inspired to do things by role models?

i didn't get an answer of any of you earlier either, should we scrap the paralympics because they can't run as fast or jump as high etc as able bodied people?

At what point have I said they shouldn’t play sport? I’ve actually said the complete oppposite you dope!
What on earth are you on about in regards to paralympics? Why should that be scrapped?

I’d say his comments were regarding the very real fact that sex sells. Women’s football and sport in general will always be a poor substitute for the male game so sex it up a bit. Just look at an international game played by England women other day that may as well have been played on Thompson’s Park! Not very PC or advisable to say publically granted mind.
As for not judging it on the same level 3 women have just been named wisden cricketers of year which is up against male cricketers. A complete nonsense. Have a female category by all means mind.

first point - i assume you can only manage a sentence or two at a time then, i said people need role models. what message does it send out to women who want to play sports if there are no role models or coverage of the women who represent their country in their chosen sport?

and your second clearly you don't understand the concept of a principle. women are not as quick, strong etc as men on the whole so them playing the game holds no interest to the likes of you as it is of a lower standard to the men's game. well people in the paralympics may not perform as well as able bodied people so i imagine nobody wants to watch them either? i mean, i put that all in one sentence but i guess the comma confused you did it?

i would've put this more politely and continued the reasonable discussion but you started the name calling.

You know what I find funny? Those that state that women should not commentate on cricket because it’s not the same standard.

As far as I can tell, Simon Mann (for one) didn’t play first class cricket. And several of the other men had very ordinary first class careers.

Funny really.

There is coverage of football and plenty of it but pushing women’s football which is a very poor watch at best is a waste of time as attendances show. IMO most people will end up following sports their parents are interested or involved in. My old man liked football, cricket and boxing. No surprise that I fell into that. No doubt my young uns will do the same. Also providing it’s being practiced in schools then people will gain an interest if it takes their fancy. That is far more likely to get people participating than seeing a duff game on the tele. Even women prefer to watch the men’s game ffs
How often do you see disabled athletes on the tele other than the Paralympics? That’s because as a spectator sport it doesn’t spark the interest other than the the paralympics. Now again this isn’t me saying they shouldn’t participate. Do you understand that as you seem to be having trouble with your understanding so far. Perhaps a branch from a tree you were hugging earlier has fallen and hit you on the head!

I now have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about. Finally something we have in common

It’s quite simple. Some posters don’t like female commentators

f***ing hell
Have you heard a female football commentator since they tried it on match of the day? I haven’t. I guarantee plenty will agree with me but don’t like to stick their head above the parapet incase the custard cocks form a little clique and try to form spine from their backbone of a blancmange

Does that make it ok?

I’m sure plenty will agree with your sexist drivel yes.
