Are we gonna protest yet?

"Moral equivalency" It's just a simile mate. Analogy. I'm in no way comparing the situations from a moral standpoint.

As for "a lot of support at the beginning of the season", does that mean that not only is my memory of those events failing but also all the people on those three threads I linked in my previous post were all liars?
Yes, that was after the 3-0 away defeat to the might of Barnsley and we had had a terrible pre-season including a 5-0 loss to Celtic on the 20th anniversary of the SOL. It also came after an absolutely shocking season last year. People were actually very excited about Grayson and the season at least up until 5-0 loss and indeed in most cases after.

As for atmosphere affecting performances, it's simply not true. Fans respond to what's going on on the pitch. Hence, turning on the players after the Barnsley game, not before. There is no link between how passionate a clubs fans are and how a club performs.

So you agree there was an abuse hangover from the previous season, aimed at a team half-full of players that had only just arrived then?

Atmosphere clearly does affect performances, not just of our own team but of the opposition. Not sure how anyone could argue to the contrary.

No. I'm pointing our the atmosphere is the result of the performances on the pitch, as is always the case.

Torrents of abuse? Ha'way man. Anyway, the club were very well supported in the early part of the season, the players turned to shit well before the fans started to turn
I think even the Arsenal fans have kicked off more than us. Generally speaking the atmosphere is okay, with a few supportive chants then the players fuck things up and people leave. Saturday case in point, plenty of positive chants, and very supportive. It's a shame the players throw that back in our face. I've witnessed very little torrents of abuse at the sol like.

It's both. It's a vicious circle. Performances create atmosphere, then in turn that atmosphere creates performance, then in turn that performance creates atmosphere, and so on.

What I'm saying is that we fans have the choice of whether to try to help break the team out of that cycle or to continue to be abusive and allow the cycle to continue unabated.

When we've given people a bit of stick it's worked in our favour. We booed Rodwell against Sheffield United at home, he was dropped next game and I'm not sure he's played since. Pressure works, Sunderland fans just don't seem to want to accept that

Have you ever considered why fans aren't jumping around celebrating before the games began? I think I'll leave it at that mate.

For the lads that have pm’d me, cheers and thank you it’s much appreciated, you know who you are. I won’t thank you on here as you maybe castigated as much as me

Who said anything about celebrating? I'm talking about supporting, encouraging, striking fear into the opposition to give our lads whatever small advantage we can give them.

Like the opposition would be afraid of playing us :lol:

What's the protest then marra?

Which hasn't f***ing worked  it didn't work against Wednesday, and it won't work next game. The atmosphere will improve when performance do, not the other way around. And the quickest way for fans to get performances to improve and to enjoy an atmosphere again is to force change. Hence we should protest.

Aye he was dropped because he was booed.

What's your explanation for the rest of the team not being dropped even though they've all been booed too?

Ever heard of ?

We haven't given it a chance to work!

Change is happening anyway without protesting. All it will achieve is to piss off the current squad even more.

It’s not a flag, sorry to disappoint you.

What will you be doing? Happy with the demise?

And here you are jousting with me
Of course not, but I'm yet to see a coherent argument for protest being an effective drive for change.

Now if you were proesting Coleman's continued tenure I could understand. For me he is a massive failure and his position is something our elusive hierarchy can address. The same could also be said of Bain in fact, and yes, I would encourage putting pressure on Short to oust him as well. Simply venting frustration over Short's continued ownership however seems like a pointless exercise to me.

It was certainly a contributing factor. Do you think Grayson would have enjoyed seeing his first team pick being booed every touch? Of course not.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Delusion if ever I have seen it.
