I agree but Market forces i suppose.
If the ECB can’t see that no cricket on terrestrial tv is helping to kill the game at grass roots then they’re beyond short sighted.
The football World Cup, Rugby World Cup and Wimbledon all have to be shown on terrestrial tv I believe. How a home ashes series doesn’t fall under that banner is beyond me.
In 2005 everyone was talking about cricket, it was a series that gripped the nation but that was ththe last series to be shown on council tele. It was a real chance that build something but that moment was lost and m afraid.
it was on the protected list but sky were dangling the carrot and the ECB had it removed. The ECB saw the pound signs and took it without actually thinking about the consequences of their actions, its now coming home to roost as kids these days dont watch any cricket on terrestrial tv.

Just heard, from a reliable source, that Seaham Harbour are planning to continue, with one adult team, in NEDL.
Also, hoping to retain at least one "junior" side.
They are due to inform the NEDCL tomorrow, they would be replacing Wearmouths second eleven in division 2. If they wish to enter the league. Here' hoping.

I attended a Meeting at the Club last night and there was enough support to:-
Form a new Committee.
Field one Team, (13/14 Players).
Apply to join NEDCL (ASAP after a further Meeting on Wednesday).
There will be no Juniors for this season as they have already been disbanded by the old Committee.
Hopefully the Harbour will see out it’s 150th Anniversary!

Good effort mate. Good to see the harbour staying afloat.

Good stuff. Will you be able to expand that playing pool? Retired lads, new signings etc?

Excellent news. You can rebuild in the NEDL, have a bit of fun meeting new people, playing at new grounds and slowly rebuild. And you've saved Rob's dad from having a coronary, no need to re-do the fixtures!

The focus and emphasis for this Season is to establish a new Committee & Volunteers, and to field one Team which will be a youthful combination of last Season’s 1st and 2nd Teams. After that a rebuild of the Clubs structure will be required, how long that will take will depend upon what interest and commitment can be generated during this Season.

Great news! It CAN be done! Try and keep as many of your juniors as possible. Get on the phone to as many juniors as possible, fulfil as many fixtures as possible.

Before you know if you’ll have a second team up and running again and build it up.

It could be exactly what is required for the club to ensure they seenthe next 150 years. If you want any support in terms of insight into how we did it then get in touch.

Obviously your coming from a much better space than LCC, in that your facilities will instantly become the best in the NEDCL and you’ve already got a crop of existing players. It takes character for those lads to step up to the plate and getbyou back on track, let the others disperse and go asking for coin elsewhere, your better off without them.

Invest in the young ones and rise again, best of luck to you all

Greg is spot on, you can get things back on track. Take heart from what we've achieved at Spenny to get a second team, arranged some friendlies last year and by showing ambition and determination, here we are entering 2 teams in Saturday leagues for the first time in 15 years. I'd suggest arranging a few friendlies for your free weeks to give any kids or fringe players a chance to get a proper go.

Just so I've got this right, the Harbour are meeting again tonight and should, hopefully, inform the NEDCL by tomorrow that they wish to enter a single team for the coming season?
