Thought they had 12 with Houghton CWCC demise.
DCL has 12 in each league, if anyone was to be promoted it would likely be Swalwell from the NTSCL. However it's a risk for anyone going up at this late stage unless they have a very good pro lined up and have recruited well. If it was the top division they would have to have a full compliment of teams to get there funding from the ecb however not sure if that also fits with the NEPL one so nothing may changeYou might be right. It's the normal "be inspired" marketing guff that sport pumps out these daysWhat Durham as a first class county have done is is give local youngster the chance to play county cricket on a level playing field as those in other parts of the country. There is now a clear pathway if they are good enough via the Academy.
But to say Durham C.C. has inspired more youngsters to take up the game is a bit far fetched.
We are now fully feeling the effects of FTECB selling their souls to Sky many years ago. My daughter teaches in a Primary School in Durham and I recently attended to give leaflets out for our clubs All Stars programme. Couldn't believe that only one kid knew who Ben Stokes was and nobody could tell me who was the England Cricket Captain.
I sincerely hope the All Stars programme bring new kids into clubs. The only kids playing are mainly siblings of youngsters playing, or sons/daughters of players who previously played.
Our club has an excellent and successful Junior set up and we put an awful lot of time and effort into it. But even for us it is really hard to attract kids into the game.
I agree and usually the same kids that play football play cricket as well. The problem now both media wide and everything else, is that football is all that exists, or you would think soo.
Even the announcement of just the football fixtures is made into a event by Sky, before the fixtures were just put out, now there is a annocument of when they will be announced!!
Couple of posters have made excellent points that there is no real break in youth football, when I was a kid there was a clear break between football and cricket, and although I loved football like the next kid, would not dream of playing it in the summer, it was cricket all the way in the summer.
That's the biggest problem. When we've tried to organise events in the school that's all you hear.School I worked in 90% of the kids thought cricket was shite

Even stuff like the radio as it all wrong nowadays Talksport for example should be renamed talkfootball.
The odd time have listened to it while driving in the middle of the summer, there is no updates of the county scores whatsoever.and even though it is the middle of summer, all they want to talk about is possible transfers or gossip about football, basically ignoring the cricket going on at county level.
Surely it's not too much too ask for a national radio station that is supposed to be covering sport all day, to have updates about the cricket scores!
Tbf to sky sports news they have it.
Why would they? They're a commercial radio station. BBC cater for the niche interest, which cricket is now it's on SKY.
Talksport have a weekly show on Talksport 2 btw.
I agree but Market forces i suppose. When people are out and about driving, I don't think it's too much to ask to have a national sports radio station give hourly updates on the cricket scores it would take 5 mins tops!
Especially in the middle of summer when no football.

If the ECB can’t see that no cricket on terrestrial tv is helping to kill the game at grass roots then they’re beyond short sighted.
The football World Cup, Rugby World Cup and Wimbledon all have to be shown on terrestrial tv I believe. How a home ashes series doesn’t fall under that banner is beyond me.
In 2005 everyone was talking about cricket, it was a series that gripped the nation but that was ththe last series to be shown on council tele. It was a real chance that build something but that moment was lost and m afraid.
I feel sorry for kids nowadays, all they have is football hoyed at them. They will grow up to be arseholes if that is the only sport they are interested in.
