Why does nobody care?

Thing is, we have plenty of ex players commenting on Twitter, but nobody in the press cares what Darren Williams or whoever has to say.

Quinn used to have a platform when he worked for Sky but he's barely made any public appearances since.

When you see quotes in the media it isn't because they've rang up a journalist and told them what they think, it's because they've made an appearance somewhere at an event and been asked for it. The quotes from Quinn from last year were after a sportsmans dinner iirc.

The only high profile (ish) figures we have are Micky Gray, who regularly speaks out but everyone calls him a gobshite, and Dave Jones from Sky who talks us up every chance he gets and tweeted something the other day about us.

If the club had any sense though (the don't) they'd send the likes of Bally, Monty or even someone like Kieron Brady or Alex Rae out to meet potential investors. They'd be much better at selling the club than Short or Bain

It’s not particularly big news that’s why. The basic story is shit team gets a bit shitter.

There’s no real financial crisis ala Leeds or Portsmouth, there’s no sensationalist story like Johnson, there’s no West Ham style protests. Nothing.
No national paper is going to send a reporter 300 miles to report a Home defeat in front of a half empty apathetic crowd. Why would anybody outside of the region be remotely interested ?
Short has backed you to the hilt. Give the fans every big name manager asked for and backed them all financially. That’s not a new story either.
The only way people are going to be interested is if something newsworthy happens really.

All Darren Williams ever Tweets about is Herbal f***ing Life or some similar shite. Which is idiotic given he's a ex pro who should have a decent understanding of nutrition. He must be short of a few quid.

The media probably are sick of the year after year relegation battle. Nothing changes, rinse and repeat etc. We are like a broken record

If the fans have succumbed to apathy, why should the media give a shit?

If you're after national attention do something to get picked up by the national press.
If you think that attention grabbing stunts are beneath you, then don't complain that nobody is talking about you.

It might be inaccurate but the assumption is that if fewer than 20k are turning up for a game, and fewer than 15k are there for the final whistle, the fans have stopped caring. And if Sunderland's own fans "don't care", there won't be sufficient national interest in the story to shift papers, attract viewers, or get clicks.

There's plenty of ways to protest the running of your club that would get national attention, and that pressure from the national press may accelerate Short's exit, or attract the interest from a prospective buyer. But, frankly, nobody will be interested in a skint football club, that's meekly sliding down the leagues, whose fans have been so disenfranchised they're not even attending anymore.

Sky Sports are only interested in the top 6 clubs and BT Liverpool won't give a toss. Even the Echo is run by mags.
Pretty much this, most teams get very little national coverage in comparison to the top 6, and a few headlines for the top couple in the championship race

This. ^

The question should be "why would anyone outside of our own fan base care?" If we weren't bottom of the league, another club would be. Does the team at the bottom of the championship every season get special media attention? I don't think so.

I have to agree the fans have also given up. No sign of a protest, just keep turning up, boo occasionaly and walk home after 70 mins of dross football. No passion it has been sucked out of the entire city by awful managers, and a shocking owner and CEO.

I think most realise that the club has to cut costs no easy way out and no point sticking the boot into the club and room the club does have is tied up in a few individuals we cant shift as nobody really wants them.

Aye blame the fans eh? All our fault for doing nowt except continue to turn up in our thousands (yep there was incredibly around 22-24K there on Sat) to watch- basically nothing!

Don’t think it’s s case of blaming the fans. Think it’s more a case of if you don’t give a shit why should anybody else ? It’s a valid point to be fair.

Let's leave aside people inside the club, owner, CEO, players etc

I just don't see our situation being mentioned anywhere outside of our bubble. No ex-players speaking out. No pundits.

The "we are a big club" arguments are tedious normally, but we are a pretty big club, heading for back to back relegations in such awful fashion and it feels like nobody cares.

Why hasn't Quinny even said anything?

Is it because we are stuck in the north east or something?

So much football coverage, 24/7 stories, mostly about fuck all, this is a real big story surely. I;m at a loss with the whole thing, feels like we have just been left to die and nobody outside the fan base gives a shit.

Its a good question, Alan Mackinally said on sky it was sad to see our plight on Saturday. I just think that Quinny Reidy Steve Cram are not in a position to do anything and speaking out may look as if they need to assist in some way...

No one has ever given a shit about Sunderland outside of the north east.

People tend to get worked up about that, im not sure why.

When a bigger club in Aston Villa were looking like dropping last season, people seldom gave a shit.

People will talk about Newcastle because they behave like clowns, thats not a good thing imo.

But can organise flyovers and flowers? How embarrasing that you cant organise something/anything when it matters. You lot just give up and stay away.

Doing fuck all whilst claiming to be amazing fans and watching your team slide to the 3rd division is better like.

I know you're on a wind up but seriously, try having the home form we've had in recent years and see how inclined you are to keep going

I still go and always will but anyone calling our fans for staying away at the current moment is either ignorant or an arsehole
