I was really really unhappy at work and with life, worked unsociable hours (although could travel due to time off), I know I had to do it, but I am now very anxious with worry, about being unemployed and what lies nex. I'm a particularly anxious chap at times, so this is a big deal for me.

I've a few ideas of what to do next but its absolutely daunting, as I am looking a changing careers possibly or even going back to Uni to retrain, its hard to tell at this stage what is realistic and what isn't.

Has anyone done anything similar?

Try anything just to get get back into work even the likes of B&Q or van driving to give yourself time and a bit of money to get by on(better than dole) I had a shit job years ago and had to get out and looked to do anything and luckily something comes in the end.

Well done mate, class. As daunting as it is this is what life is about, escape the humdrum and go and do something you want to. How old are you by the way?

29. My life has been weird, my day to day life is a massive f***ing rut which I hate, but I get time off due to working unsociable hours, so I have traveled a bit, which I enjoy, but the balance has been too far one way.

I just thought if I don't do it now I never will.

Well done mate. I did this about 7 years ago and was the best thing I've done. I was really unhappy with my last job but it was still a massive step. I was out of work for 3 months and managed to find myself a new job that I really liked (and where I still am). Stay positive and don't let it stress you out...this could be a great turning point for you.

What was your job?
What qualifications/ experience do you have?
What do you want to do?

Sounds like a long stint at uni may increase anxiety/uncertainty.

Go for a job youd enjoy, even if the money is shite, if you have no dependants.

Young enough to do whatever you want mate...go blow your redundancy on more travel, get as far away from this shithole country for as long as you can.

Cheers mate, that is exactly the type of post I wanted to read when I started this thread.. Appreciated.

No worries mate. And give yourself credit for making the step...it takes balls to do it. It's easy to stay in a job for security etc. but your happiness and well-being should always take priority. Good luck!
