People hating people they work with

After I left the PO they thowt that much of me they made me a honorary life member of their social club so that I could run it for them. Still do it now.

I think the whole thing of work mixing with socialising has gone nowadays. In Portsmouth we had the gas club, the leccy board club, the transport club, hospital club, co-op club, prison club, police club, civil service club, post office club. We're the only one will still going now. All the others relied on the employer for their premises and didn't go fully independent. As soon as they were privatised or were closed they went down the swanny.

Growing up in Sunderland I can remember the PTE club, Coles club, Pyrex club, Vaux club. Coles Cranes and Vaux sports grounds was practically a professional set-up. Providing socialising facilities for your employees is no longer considered a high priority and I think the world is a poorer place for it. imho of course.
My last place was good in that they paid us £30 each a month to go out. I stopped after a few years to the point that when I left, my team had written a computer program called "Will Restless attend a work's night out?" Whatever series of answers you gave, the answer was always no.
Apparently they all just have drinks in the office on a Friday now instead which I think loses some of the purpose of the entertainments allowance.

When I was in research we had a bar on site that opened on Friday evenings, which was the focal point of a sports club with squash courts, badminton courts, basketball courts, a swimming pool and kayaks/sailing boats you could rent.

Was absolutely class, can’t imagine there’s many places that have that.

The PO had 8 regions that had championships in everything from footy, darts, chess and scrabble (I kid you not!) and everything in between. The next year all the regional winners met up on a long weekend and had a national championships (it was a bastard playing 3 games of footy on 4 days mind). Built up some great camaraderie and contacts during that time.

You don't get the same with a brainstorming session with a powerpoint display at the the end of it. I think it's one of the reasons I haven't really pushed on at work, cos my heart's not in that kind of shit. I just sit and laugh at the attempts to impress.

Do they still do it? Sounds class. I know my current employer does similar and it’s a global company so you can play against loads of different people. Wouldn’t fancy my chances at Kabbadi against the Indian lads mind.

Nah mate. Scrapped it in 2001. I was the SE regional darts champion that year and the finals were due to be held in Belfast the next year but were scrapped due to the PO being a bit skint. They were never held again as far as I'm aware.

I get on with everyone of the teachers in my school. Teaching in a deprived area if you didn’t get along as a staff the place would go under.

Actually I tell a lie. The whole staff as one think the Head teacher is a bell end

Seems like most people on here absolutely despise the people they work with. Or at least struggle to tolerate them.

Am I lucky that I’ve largley enjoyed the company of the people I’ve worked with, bar the odd one or two?

Are the people whingeing about people they work with just difficult bastards themselves?
Once you realise it's just work and it's meant to be tough sometimes and stop being a fanny you can get on with anybody
I know people who have slagged me off behind my back and I'll still crack on with them because I can't control everything but I can control me and they won't fk my day up

Exactly. If someone had said something and I’d found out I can’t say I’d be bothered. Unless it was an accusation of some heinous crime mind, I might be bothered then.

:lol:You can come round mine if you want and we can be class together.

Need a work experience kid like? I make a cracking cuppa.

Ours is a heavily unionised workplace and I can't be doing with all that tbh and as such there's loads of workplace lawyers constantly griping about anything and everything. Far too many people talking behind each others backs too. Place is a fekkin living mumsnet

If ever I lose the plot would never take a gun to myself n family , but be tempted to be on the works roof with a sniper gun and take half these fuckas out
There were always a few contenders at work for going postal and as I sat nearest the door, I was always in danger. Surprising that none of them have done it yet.

My thoughts on my work mates ranges from a deep hatred to complete apathy.

I don't mind one or two but don't actively like them.

Then again I don't like many people.
