How long can Rafa last?

People may slag these off immediately after a game, but when we get relegated we both know where the blame will lie with the majority of the fans

If he continues to play Joselu every week until we go down I’m pretty certain Ashley has no influence over that. Therefore will be the managers fault

The one reason he plays him?? Out and out stubbornness (coupled with the aforementioned He is exempt from blame)

If Benitez spends a shit ton in January, but we still go down, it's his fault (and the players).
If we don't spend in January and go down the fault has to lie with Ashley.

I think he's been playing Joselu because Gayle offers little to no hold up play, and Mitrovic is a madhead.

The kind of mag that thinks they are above Allardyce because they had Dyer and Solano who were effectively finished as footballers?
Does that make a club Elite?

So to summarise if they’re relegated it’s Ashley’s fault according to @The Fish

This despite saying in the summer their squad of championship players were more than good enough to hold their own “Gayle will score 15 goals” Shelvey “Blah blah blah” I’m sure I read
That is not what I said Bear.

Unlike you to make unreliable claims though...

What are you on about? Who is claiming we're an elite club? Was it a "Mag at Work"?
Your sense of entitlement and toys out of pram attitude because fat Mike wouldn't fund big expensive players, aw diddums. This we are an elite club who should be rubbing shoulders with the top 6 is more or less what you're implying fishy old bean Lacazette ffs. Do you honestly think players like Lacazette would go to Newcastle? Maybe fat Mike looked at the mess he had to sort out from the days when you lot tried to buy success and still couldn't attract the top, top players.:lol:

Why the fuck should Ashley risk his fortune giving Benitez a shit load of cash when yous can't get rid of his last pile of crud bought. Anyway he f***ing hates you ungrateful knackers.

We’ve been beaten off Brighton, Bournemouth, Huddersfield and Bournemouth, through tactics and trying to score. None of which have massively better squads

Howe, half his age and even less experience gave him a lesson in managing in the modern day PL

Even the Palace win has to be up there with one the most boring victories I’ve ever witnessed

Worst form in the division in the last 5 games.
Those above gradually pulling away, those below gradually closing the gap and in Palace's case rapidly closing.

While the game at home is not critical, it's a must not lose considering the upcoming fixtures.

Look man, the fact is he has spent a shed load of money irrespective of how much he's brought in.
He failed to keep you up with 10 games to go despite only being 1/2 points from safety with game in hand. That was a massive fail.
He wheeled and dealed and despite a few hiccups along the way - esp at home, got you promotion. Job done, but not impressively like Reidys Safc or Keegans Fulham.
This season, 4 wins against shite has kept u out of the rz, but as you continue to falter, the likes of Palace and WHU are fighting back.
Tomorrow is vital. Lose to Everton and you will be bottom by end of year.
Why can't you see that he's brought people in to replace those that were sold? That's not investing in the squad, it's barely maintenance. It may look like a lot of money but that's football inflation. Relatively speaking these purchases were quite modest.

I'm hearing there's a bit friction in the dressing room at the minute, players are not happy with the way things are going and expect fatty to leave soon.

I don't think anyone cares who's fault it is to be honest.

The blame can clearly be shared amongst the non-performing players, the manager, the owner, the scouts, etc.

The laughable thing, for many Sunderland supporters, are the cringing attempts to absolve Benitez from all but the minimum blame.

Everything possible has been thrown into this painful defence ..... net spend, Ashley's niggardly spending, the board, etc etc etc.

Now suggestions are being made that it's the takeover that's Newcastle perform so badly despite their heroic manager.

It's quite reasonable to say that Benitez has bought poorly, planned badly, plays too cautiously and is failing to motivate a fair few of the payers.

But you just can't bring yourselves to say it ...... that is what's funny and why these threads endure :D

I've never said we should be rubbing shoulders with the top 6. That's just you making stuff up.

Would Lacazette come to Newcastle now? No, of course not, neither would Aubameyang, or Modric, obviously. At the time we were interested Lacazette wasn't the star he is now. I really wonder if there's an issue on this board with understanding how time works...

Well, he's not risking his fortune, because it's money made by the football side of the business (players sales, PL Money), and , if he doesn't spend a bit, we're at risk of going down, again. Should we go down again he'll wipe tens of millions off our value and miss out on >£100m tv money

We've had some narrow losses, and the football is pragmatic, at best, but we've also been unfortunate at times during a match and with the availability of key players. And all of the performances come with the caveat that Benitez didn't get to spend what he was promised.

Why isn't he playing Shelvey ?

Why isn't he playing Shelvey ?

Dunno, maybe he thought given Leicester's quality on the break he wanted 2 more defensively minded midfielders, plus Joselu "quality" ( ) in the air.
Maybe he thought that because Leicester would likely sit deep there wouldn't be the gaps behind for Shelvey to exploit?
Maybe Shelvey hasn't been 100%, or has been acting the **** in training?

Being pretty shit doesn’t help him

Even more worrying is that the 4 teams below them all have better current form with 9 draws and 3 wins between them.

Newcastle have 1 draw, in the last 5, and some really difficult games in the next 5 ...... Allardyce will be licking his chops.

Benitez is failing to outsmart all kinds of manager so Everton will be a very tough game after the capitulation against Leicester.

By the time they play Newcastle could be 3 points off bottom and the pressure will really be on.

Loving this slow tempo - 'slowly slowly catchy monkey' thing Rafa has going on...Players jogging about like a practice match with positional discipline and the occasional sudden upping of the press and attack. Teams are getting hypnotized. Just enjoying a master tactician in charge.
