Yet they'll walk for miles around the Metrocentre once they've parked as close to the entrance as they can.Again, you're asking people to use their legs. It's not allowed.
Maybe a drive through M&S is the future.
I recently ordered three pairs of trousers for the grand total of £9.67 and collected them instore to avoid delivery charges. Working from home I don't really need work trousers but three quid a pair for quality trousers couldn't be missed.Retailers need increasingly to use their real estate as showrooms and collection and return points.
.
Weirdly I had a similar conversation with my missus last weekend. We've both decided we will never shop in the city centre again because of the parking and the one way streets
I'm not a fan of the metro centre and haven't been in it for years. It had a fairground last time I was there which I hear has now gone.
A lot of places do free on Thursdays this time of year though it's usually only after 5 or 6 for the evening shopping. I like to support local shops but rarely go into our city centre, preferrng seaham or washington which are both easy to get to from where I live just off the A19. If parking was free Saturdays I'd go into the town more often. Paying to park when you are there to spend money and effectively support the centre goes against the grain for me.
how many times does this need explaining?
Council don't set the rates.
Probably again. I'm not sure I've seen a post about Bishop's town centre.
Ah. Well that removes my previous point.
I wonder who's responsibility it is to encourage more business back to the bottom of town then
The public? Market forces? Shopping trends? Landlords?
High Street retail isn't on the bones of it's arse in Sunderland alone mind.
Unemployment rate
Great Britain - 4.6%
Sunderland - 7.6%
Median wage (FT workers, before tax)
Great Britain - £28,132

I would tend to agree with you
They haven’t missed online clothing at all accounts for 40% of their sales of a 10 billion revenue.Completely missed the online clothing bandwagon and rely mainly on food now, which is way overpriced for most people.
Charity shops, coffee shops, McDonalds and Sports Direct. M&S bosses must look around and despair. The buildings other than M&S are absolute eyesores too. This would be a massive blow to the city centre if it is true.not surprised, bit out of the way, high prices, streets a shit hole

How have I missed the point? You said they missed the online clothes bandwagon yet they are one of the biggest online clothes retailers despite what you say.Anyone else want to miss the point?

Been ordering M and S online for over 15 years. What's the difference between a website and an e-commerce site? They didn't even have their own e-commerce site until 2014, the likes of John Lewis were investing properly years before.
They are getting better now but they were ridiculously slow on the uptake.

They don't go to out of town places, they get the bus into town. It's old biddies and non car drivers who are likely the main users of town centres as they have to use the buses. We have a decent bus service from the big estates that make up the bulk of sunderland into the city centre. I'd like to see a very low fixed fare if not free on Saturdays, but it ain't going to happen. How do all the biddies get to out of town shopping centres?
Bit shit if you don't drive.
says a a lot about the town if it cant support an M&S on the high street
