It's going to be interesting that's for sure

Is there any surprise Ashley is reluctant to allow Benitez free reign on transfers, half of his 'vital' signings have barely played in the Championship and aren't good enough for the PL despite them often being given long contracts. Many of the team that was relegated, and deemed unfit for service, is still there and helped the club to promotion. Now, having failed to bring in adequate replacements, he wants to sign more players at higher prices despite having his original signings soaking up wages ....... Ashley has seen this all before and wont just piss money up the wall.

Benitez bought a keeper for £6 million to replace Darlow who Pardew had signed ...... he played a handful of games and is now behind Darlow again.

He bought Gamez who just vanished and couldn't even shift Anita who Pardew had signed iirc, not sure tbh ..... now Manquillo has come in.

He bought Lazaar, on a 5 year deal to replace Newcastle 'boo -boy' Dummett ...... has he even played?

There are others who are iffy and probably not really good enough for the PL, Hanley, Atsu, Diame?

What happens to all these players, do they just stay home and play Kerplunk?

I'd get the playing FIFA 18.

They might learn summat

Maybe El Rafador should join them

Why do these Rafa threads go on for 50 plus pages?

I'd imagine most people come on here for football related threads, which this is, but also for a bit of a laugh.

These threads have a thinly veiled humour running through them, some people can see through the veil and others can't.

Not everyone has the same interests/tastes/humour ...... some posters seem to prefer threads about ITK's or Short or how every ex-player is nailed on to score against us.

Each to their own I say, threads are easily ignored after all ..... especially if they have such obvious titles as this.

This one has to be on a wind up

We could of got maguire ake arnautovic McCarthy for nearly 100m, and we wouldnt be in a better position than we are now

Can see Rafas plan shelvey and merino in cm both amazing passes, and loads of pace out wide to counter attack teams

I'd imagine if he's as decent as people believe he won't be short of offers from better placed clubs.

Do you think you're in a position to spend that amount on a player?
Not every better placed clubs will play a style of football that needs a player like Perez, even the ones that do may already have other targets or players in place.

Yes, I do. We had a £30m profit from the previous summer, and while we've spent £33m thus far, we've also made £18m in player sales this summer. This means we've at least £15m to play with, and that's before you talk about investment from the first tranche of Premier League money.

It was the premier league review thing on ssn. He was on talking about them. If he was gpimg to walk, then surely he would have just declined going on, saying he's too busy preparing or something? Can't see him leaving just yet personally.

they had it on talk sh*te also + shearer, we'll find out on sunday how bad it is.

Good post and good points: the Manquilo signing for me was a gobsmacker. He couldn't even get in our team - the worst premiership team for years. What goes through Rafa's head? His approach almost seems to be like Roy Keane's was for us; buy a zillion players and a few of them might turn out canny.

Wasn't there a stipulation in his deal with you that if he played a certain amount you'd be forced to buy him for £X?

fwiw Manquillo wasn't greeted with much fanfare amongst the lads I know, and while he's looked ok in preseason that's preseason and counts for not a lot.

I think on Sunday we will get comfortably beaten by Spurs. Runners up last season, vs newly promoted team that hasn't done much strengthening. Nailed on Spurs win.
Could even be so soundly beaten that we are bottom of the league after the first weekend.

If we somehow manage to win, and play well, how will Ashley react? I think that would strengthen his case for not signing more players. Nee danger of us winning though.

What style is this you speak of? You probably know very little about Perez, you are making assumptions yet again based on nothing.

You have at least £15m to play with, are you suggesting that you'll blow a large proportion of that on a single player? Then there's the wages issue.

I think he'll be heading elsewhere, probably abroad.

You may be surprised.
