Unimaginative Recruitment

I think he's being ironic. We've been linked with 4 players he managed whilst at Preston. 2-3 of them look very likely signings.

What do our scouting team actually do?

He'll likely rely on the scouts at some point. At the moment,he's looking to improve the squad with players he knows...he doesn't need scouts for that.

He's gone for 2 players he knows plus one highly rated player, deals which he can get over the line quickly. That's 3 more players with invaluable time bonding with their new team mates early in pre-season.
The bloke can't win with some of us, he's damned either way.

I don't know what some expect. We're saddled with debt, we bring a manager in from Preston who knows the league - do you seriously f***ing expect him to look at a squad lacking in several key areas to go to Bundesliga 2 or something and pick out a load of talents? Every single manager going will try and bring in a few players asap to get things moving, generally ones who are known to them and then suppliment that from elsewhere. People criticising that are ignoring Moyes last season going for Ndong, signing Djilobodji from Chelsea after he starred in the Bundesliga and getting knocked back by about five players in Spain and accross Europe.

But it's ok the Huddersfield manager got some bargains last season from elsewhere, oh would that be the same f***ing country he has extensive knowledge of would it???

It's a fact that if they owe us money they owe us it so it doesn't matter where we spend it as its all just money on a balance sheet. What we may be doing is getting a better deal because of that, though also you're ignoring we probably owed them money for Gibson and Oviedo anyway.

What you're also ignoring is that one of those players was a stand out player for him last season and another was at Preston on loan too. Two players he's already signed for his previous club last season. Clearly more than just about owing Everton owing us money with McGeady..
So signing a player from the German 2nd division make them better than anyone in from the UK? I think that is small mindedness. Sure there are bargains to be got away. But they come with more risk. We cannot afford the risk. Who knows who else is coming, these are only the first 3 faces. But it doesn't matter where a signing comes from there are both good and bad examples no matter where you buy from. But no need to be snobish just because they are British and don't have fancy names. What happens on the pitch matters.

Nothing new to see here.

Would imagine the Everton loans were discussed with Pickford sale.

Well McGready was nowhere near the player some thought and wanking themselves over (Similar to Borini) when rumoured getting from Russian, very little end product over the top typical Sunderland signing. We never learn.

"Middlesbrough and Sunderland are considering a move for Leeds goalkeeper Rob Green, 37"

Yorkshire Evening Post but still.
We can't seriously be considering this

It's lazy and suggests ignorance and small mindedness.

You have a point. Would feel better if his knowledge was a bit wider though.
He's obviously on a tight budget and will go with the players he knows will do a job. Foreign players tend to take a while to settle. His positivity is what I like best. I've a feeling we'll surprise a lot of pundits who're writing us off.

I'm more than happy with who he's supposed to be signing so far, I'd rather be signing young players and loaning old players in an ideal world but beggars can't be choosers, if for less than £3m he can solve 3 positions then happy days, I think Galloway in particular will shine for us, he's impressed every time I've seen him.
Has he got a wand of a left foot tho bonny lad ?

Lot of bacteria there marra.

It's the Guinness and Chicken Tikka Chilli Balti's mate.

Neither would I. He'd give you some grief but probably for the right reasons.

A negative thread from one of the most negative posters. How imaginative.

Think it's time for an ignore.

Happy days.

Hope so. Hoping for some surprises in next few signings.

We are buying players to compete and hopefully get out of this league, leave the manager to do his job, however if he fails then complain...

Would you expect him to trust a scouting team he'll barely know or his own judgement?
I'll never understand this attitude that managers bringing in players that they know is borne out of laziness. In all walks of life people would rather work with someone they've worked with in the past and are aware of their capabilities than take a punt on an unknown. It backfired massively with Moyes but mainly because Moyes brought in old/injury prone players that were nowhere near the level they were when he worked with them. I see nothing wrong with a manager bringing players they are familiar with particularly in our situation.
